Hey Ladies,
What toys is your LO into at the moment? I went to a friend's today who just had a baby and she asked me what "learning toys" I had for DD. I drew a blank because I don't really have any specific learning toys. She seems content with learning from what she already has and hasn't shown interest in color names or the abc's... it's a bit early for that. :-) She loves her blocks and the standard rattle toys, as well as books and common kitchen things like cups and spoons. She is fed up with her exersaucer because she would rather explore. What about you guys?
Re: Toys
As for learning, I just use regular toys. He loves those soft stacking blocks so as I stack I count, then he knocks them over. He also likes the little people figures and I'm just constantly naming them. He picks up the cow, and I repeat cow to him. We do this for a lot of things around the house.
During diaper changes, I try and distract him but asking what a specific animal says. I'm only doing two right now, cat and dog, and he can't mimic the sounds but it's all a process!!
I don't believe in "educational toys". Most things advertised as educational light up and sing songs. They cause me to go on sensory overload and become crabby. Alphabet blocks are the closest my kids get to "educational toys"
Right now DD is into plastic funnels, rattles, a toy hammer, and eating any microscopic bit of anything she finds on the floor.

This. Overstimulation is overrated.
DD likes anything that is not a toy, DD1 was the same around this age. Remotes, water bottles, shoes (gross), dog dishes, DD1's cups and plates and paper. I feel like the best education for them at this age is to just let them explore everything around them...within reason and supervised of course.
my read shelf:
He's constantly into everything except his toys right now. So stairs, cabinets, toilet paper, the pantry, fridge...etc.
When he does play with his toys his current favorites are any type of balls, cars and books. He will occasionally play with his light up table toy thing but for the most part he is content to bang his plastic balls on my coffee table and chase them when they roll off the edge.
He hates being confined now so we packed the exersaucer away : ( It was a sad day for me.
Stacking cups, blocks, books, magazines... she likes to make a mess, so anything she can pull of a table or out of a basket or bucket.
I did cave and buy a Leap Frog learning table and she LOVES it. She stands and plays with it while we get packed up in the morning.
