headache ?

How often do you get headaches?  If you are a chronic headache sufferer how do you deal with them?  Do you consider your headaches to be migraines at times?

I get headaches 3-4 times a week.  Sometimes they are not a big deal.  Other times they are really, really bad.  My dad and sister also get them.  2 of my older children already suffer with them as well.  It's terrible.

For a while ibuprofen would work if I took it as soon as I started getting a headache.  But it doesn't anymore so I try not to even take it except for PMS.  I bought a generic headache/migraine medicine from WalMart that helps about half the time.  My headaches start small and get worse and worse as the day goes on.  By the end of the day I am barely functional.  Sleep almost always helps.

However, a few times this year I've had headaches that last for days and aren't as strong.  I think it's related to my neck.  I guess I am going to have break down one of these days and see if a chiropractor can't help me.  Today is headache day #7 - fun, fun.

Re: headache ?

  • Have you talked to your dr. about it? There's probably something they can do for you if they're really migraines. If they're more tension headaches though try to work on some relaxation throughout the day. Good luck!

  • I've used chiropractic and acupuncture for headaches; it really helps. Mine are usually hormone-related so my acupuncturist uses the hormone points on me. Good luck!

  • I would try to get your need adjusted. A couple weeks ago I woke up from a nap and had a horrible headache and it wasn't gone they next day when I woke up. I went to the chiropractor and my neck was definitely out. It took a few hours before my headache was gone but it worked.

I hope you can find relief soon, headaches suck!

  • I'm sorry you are having all of these headaches!  I used to suffer like you, and I did speak to my doctor about it.  She suggested a chiropractor, and while I thought that was a joke, it honestly worked.  I've been SO much better since.  I go religiously every 6 weeks, and my headaches and migranes are so minimal now.  She also did prescribe me a migraine medicine that I take that has helped so much.  I can still try and take advil (she told me to take three at the onset) and if it doesn't work within 30-45 minutes I take the migraine medicine and it's always gone about 20-30 minutes later.  I love the migraine medication because I do have the option of trying advil first.  I didn't want to always have to resort to the prescription first.

But I'd honestly see a chiropractor.

    This!

Accupuncture stopped my chronic migraines-think 3-4 per month that would land me in the ER with dehydration from vomiting they were so bad.

I do the chiropractor once a week to keep my normal stress and tension headaches at bay.  I would highly recommend both!

  • Girl, go see your doctor! I've suffered from headaches my entire life, from chronic headaches to migraines, to opthamalogic migraines. It sucks. When I go through periods of migraines, I see a neurologist who prescribes daily meds to help prevent them. That sh!t works. I avoid chiropractors because 1 my insurance doesn't cover it and 2 a chiro totally jacked up my mom's neck and I already suffer from a pinched nerve, so no thanks. I know some people swear by them, though. Go see someone about your headaches! Once you find even the smallest amount of relief, you'll be so glad you did.

  • Oh no!  I get them in the back of my head.  The doctor said they were tension headaches and I also get sinus headaches.  Mine usually go away if the stress goes away or if I take a decongestant.  Sometimes my weird back-of-head headaches respond to decongestants too.  I think I just have really bad sinuses.
