Birth Announcements

When is too late to send out birth announcements?  DD is 7 weeks old, and spent her first 3 weeks in the NICU.  We just finally had her newborn pictures done is past weekend since she came earlier than expected/longer than expected NICU stay and our photographer had a busy month to squeeze us in.  Now since she's so busy it may be another month before we receive our images.  Is it silly to send out birth announcements at this point, considering DD will be at least 3 months old.  I feel really weird about it, but I'm disappointed to miss out on the experience of formally announcing her birth.  What do you ladies think/what are your experiences?

Re: Birth Announcements

  • I'm sending ours this week. I don't think it's ever too late if its something you want to do.

  • I don't think it's to late at all.  The way I look at it all rules are off when it comes to preemies.  And, I'm sure everyone understands that.

  • Of course you should send them!  I ended up sending the announcements out three months after DS's birth (He was in the nicu for 9 weeks).  Instead of announcing his birth, we were celebrating his homecoming.  I also used them as thank you cards for any gifts that we had received.

  • Definitely not too late.  I'm sending them out when Julia is 2 months old and I wouldn't hesitate to send them out at 3 months either. I found super  cute ones on etsy that I plan on ordering: https://www.etsy.com/listing/95375557/preemie-birth-announcement-welcome-home

  • I think you can do whatever makes you happy.  I've received announcements anywhere from 1 week old to 6 months.  They always put a smile on my face, so I think you'll be 100% fine to wait 1 more month.

LOVE THESE!!!  I used the quote on mine that said "Sometimes the smallest things take up the most room in our heart".  It would be fitting for this design as well.

  • Ours was pretty late too, for the same reasons. I think it's fine, I'd say for the first year for sure.

  • Thank you all so much.  I'm on my iPad so I can't check that etsy announcement right now but I will definitely check that out later today.  I needed the reassurance and I'm glad you ladies think it's okay! :)

^ Yup. Preemie do things in their own time and so do their parents. I ordered T's BA's when he was about a month old, but used them as cards/stationary/thank you notes to everyone who helped us while we were in NICU as well as sending to the people I would normally. Thanks for the casserole - here's my kid! ;)

  • I would still send the birth announcements outs. We actually had the photos done at 25 days old, and I sent them out around the two month mark. I still think people will want to see photo(s).
