Progesterone shots pregnant with number 2

Hi ladies, this is my first time posting I just found out I am pregnant with my second child. My first was born at 34 weeks 3 days for no known reason. My doctor wants me to start progesterone shots once a week at week 16. I am a little nervous about this. Does anyone have a similar experience. If so did the shots work? They are looking to do this till week 37 that's a long time. Of course if this means I won't have another preemie I will gladly have my husband give me the shot. Just trying to see what everyone has for experience in this situation.

My first was 35w2d (pPROM)  and I did the progesterone shots weeks 16-36.  The shots are once a week, in the butt cheek, and your husband can give them to you at home.  My DD was induced at 38w6d and I can say the shots absolutely worked in my case.  Worth it IMO.  Good Luck!

My first was born at 26+4.  I'm pregnant with #2 now and today am 30 weeks.  I've been taking the shots since week 16.  I was willing to do anything I could to avoid a repeat and it's not bad at all.

I had my first DD at 33w 4d due to pre-e at least that was the original thought. I changed practices before TTC for #2 and my new OB decided that 17p shots were the way to go w/#2 due to my water breaking before my induction. I started the shots at 16 weeks and I would go weekly to the doctor's office for them. I made it until 32 weeks before I was sent to the hospital for BP issues, there they found I was contracting. I was then put on bedrest with doses of procadia throughout the day. At 34w 4d my contractions started to increase, I went to L&D and that's when they found out that my contractions could not be stopped. I delivered the following date at 34w 5d due to PTL. Baby spent 14 days in the NICU mainly for a's and b's and weight issues. I would definitely recommend anyone who has had a preemie and PTL issues to consider the shots. I didn't really have any problems with the weekly shots. I feel it at least gave me an extra week and half baking baby#2. Totally work it in my opinion.

I'm another pro 17p'er. My DS was born at 24w5d. I started 17p this time at 16 weeks with my husband giving them. I have no side effects other than sometimes a bit of site soreness. I was having contractions the night before i was scheduled to begin. No reason was found, but they lasted 10 hours and it freaked me ot. I haven't felt any contractions since starting the 17p. Like pp, i'd Consider anything to avoid a micropreemie this time. GL with your decision.

Worked fabulously with my son!  He was born at 35w1d due to a hemorrhage but I never once had a contraction!  Much better than my first pg when I was in full blown labor at 17w.

Thank you for all of the replies I just wanted to make sure it was a successful way to keep baby from coming out early. I appreciate all the feedback :0 My husband will be excited about giving me shots every week

I had our LO unexpectedly at 36w when my water broke.  I talked to ,y midwives and they said next time I will do the 17p shots from 16-36 weeks.

Had ds at 34 wks due to PROM.  Started p17 shots at 16 wks with this pg.  I had preterm contractions last week at 32 wks.  I'm now 33 weeks baby still on the inside - I will keep up with the shots until 36 wks or baby is born.  The goal right now is 35 wks so we will see how it goes.
