overnight diapers or size up

So DS is sleeping better/longer at night but seems this is causing diaper leaking in the morning now. Don't know if I should try the diapers advertised as overnight or just try a diaper up a size. Anyone have experience with this? TIA

Re: overnight diapers or size up

  • When DD1 started leaking through at night we went up a size just at night, which worked well for us. I would try just going up a size before trying overnight diapers, since those tend to be more expensive.

  • We do both. Huggies overnight Pampers overnight suck one size up. Even with no night feeds my DS tends to pee a lot over an 11 hour night.

  • We've had good luck with Pampers overnight diapers. I think they're called Extra Protection. We buy them in her normal size.

  • We do Huggies Overnights in one size up and they've worked well for months. DS is now waking up a lot drier these days, but I still keep him in the overnights

  • I use these in DS's diaper at night b/c we were having this same problem. My BFF told me about them because it's so much cheaper than buying special overnight diapers. You can put them in the same size they use in the day, but it get's kind of snug, so I usually go up a size if I have a larger size on hand. If not, you can just stick them in your normal diapers. At our local BRU you can get the 30 pack, but it is more economical to get the 180 pack, it's just that it will last you 6 months if you only use one a day.

This for us as well. The Pampers extra protection have been doing a pretty good job for us in her normal size. Now if I can just get the baby to keep them on...someone discovered last night how to take off her diaper...

  • Going up a size in DS's regular diapers didn't work for us. I finally broke down and bought Huggies Overnites. They work better than anything else we've tried, and I get a decent deal on them through Amazon Mom/Prime with Subscribe & Save.

But DS is a super heavy nighttime wetter, and the Overnites are tight and bulging by morning, so our next box will be 4's instead of our regular 3's. If your LO is right on the edge or even just slightly below it, I'd still go the next size up, especially in the nighttime diapers because they swell up so much when they're wet.
