Thoughts on Colleen

What are everyone thoughts on the name Colleen?  Is Leena an acceptable nn?

I am sorry for all the posts.  I am just not finding "the" name...

Re: Thoughts on Colleen

  • It's cute. It's recognizable, but not overly popular. Better than so many other names that are being used now!

  • Love it! It's my cousin's name, otherwise it would probably be on our girl list.

Not crazy about Leena for a nn...do you need to have a pre-selected nn?

  • Nickname not required. Just curious what nn people use for Colleen. My own name doesn't really have any nn options, do I guess I like having them as options for our girls.

  • I really like Colleen.  I went to high school with a Colleen and she didn't have a nn.

  • I like Colleen a lot. I think Leena is stretching it. She doesn't need a nickname!

I really like Colleen.  I don't like the nickname Leena.  Not every name needs a nickname and this is one that I wouldn't force one upon.

On the rare occasion that my friend Colleen has a nickname, it's Col.

All of this. I love the name and my friend Colleen goes by Col but not as an everyday always nn.

    Agreed!

  • It's a pretty popular Amish name where I live, but if you aren't near Amish, no worries!  And many that I know use the nickname "Colly".

  • I love this name it is one of my all time favorites, but my DH vetoed it. I wouldn't have a nn for it if I ever used it.

  • Love the name Colleen! Beautiful and classic. I wouldn't use a nickname.
  • LOVE Colleen.  I'd probably just call her Colleen, but I don't think Lena is a bad nn idea (I wouldn't do the 2 e's).

  • Only chiming re: nickname because I had 3 Colleens in my high school graduating class.  None of them had a nickname other than us occassionally yelling to them as "Col".
  • love the name.  my sister is colleen and almost everyone calls her that.

    family calls her bean.
