Induction date is set.

I posted last night about DH leaving on our due date. To recap, he is in the Army and his chain of command is being incredibly inconsiderate of our situation. This is our first baby and he will be leaving for a month to a place without internet or phone capabilities and they will not delay his travel date by even 24 hours. I will not be able to contact him at all and when I brought this up to my OB last week she recommended an induction. I was hesitant to even consider it but after all the support I received last night from all you lovely ladies, I have decided to go through with an induction. I requested today that my OB do a full check to make sure that the baby is healthy as well as to make sure my body is in a position to cooperate with the pitocin. As far as we know, everything looks good. I am set to have my induction next Thursday. I will be 39 wks 1 day. I would've hoped to have it closer to my due date but she assured me it would be okay. I am praying that I go into labor naturally before hand though. I am also praying that this was the right decision for us. I still feel immense guilt but DH and I talked it over and decided if our OB is as confident in the situation as she says she is, then we should be too. I am also GBS+ and although, as a FTM, we are usually in labor longer than the 4 hrs required for the antibiotics to set in, I also live over an hour away from the hospital. This is the medical reasoning my OB used to support the induction. I know many women on here are against induction if not medically necessary as I am too. I honestly never thought I would be confronted with having to choose between risking my H not being there for the birth of our first child and an induction.

  • You have a date!  Be excited!  It's a shittastic situation for you and your H, but you guys are doing what is best for your family and now he will get at least a few days with his first child. That time will be precious to you both no matter how you get there.

  • Honestly, good for you. Every situation is unique, and at the end of the day, you don't have to answer to anyone except yourself, and i'm glad you're comfortable with your decision. Also, this way your DH will get to meet your LO. GL with EVERYTHING! :)

  • That's awesome & GL to you and your family. When my H was in the Marine Corps. we saw many families miss the birth of their children so you are very blessed that he'll get to be there and experience this with you! Big Smile

  • Good for you. 39 weeks is very close to your due date so especially as it sounds as if things are going well you really shouldn't have any issues.  You won't regret being induced, having DH there for the labor and birth will be wonderful for both of you and he can support you through the entire process. Also, your DH being able to hold his newborn baby before he has to go away for a month will carry him through that separation time.  You and baby will be fine, and it will be a magical time for you all as a family. GL and thinking of you! :)
