NBR: Vent about DH job...

DH works for my FIL, running the family business. Never once in almost 10 years of working there abused the family priveledge, i.e. slacking off, coming in late, etc. Works 6 days/week, 8-5 as a mechanic, working on power equipment. pretty physical stuff. Basically busts his ass all day long while FIL sits in the office on the computer playing solitaire. But, he's the boss so thats his perogitive(sp?)

Anyhoo... FIL almost NEVER pays him on time. Literally, tomorrow will be an entire month since he's gotten paid. Supposed to be every 2 weeks. FIL is leaving for vaca(again) Thursday and if he doesnt pay him before he leaves, he will be 3 paychecks behind when he gets back. Sooooooooo frustrating! I dont work, so its not like we are made of $$$. If it was anyone else besides his son, he would never get away with it. DH hasnt taken a day off since the week he took when DD was born. I just hate that he gets taken advantage of. FIL has nothing to worry about in the finance dept. so he must think that everyone can go over a month with out money coming in. Rrrrgggghhh

  • Yikes, that sucks.

  • Why doesn't your husband tell him that you need the money? I would like to think he'd pay him if he expressed the need.

  • He's going to say something to him today. My FIL gets really weird when the topic of money comes up and I think DH is afraid to rock the boat. I just hate that it has to come down to him asking for his paycheck. awkward situations are 10x more so when its family involved. Especially my in-laws. they are a different breed. LOL. I love my FIL, but sometimes cant stand my husbands boss, if that makes sense...
  • I think your family needs to sit down and have a chat about just because you're family doesn't mean that at work H shouldn't be treated as a normal employee. He needs regular pay and that has to be addressed.
  • I agree. As soon as we tell them about baby #2 being on the way, he's going to have a talk with his dad about the future. FIL is tentatively going to retire next year, so DH would hopefully have more control over the business or even be taking over. Fingers crossed!!!
  • Yikes, that's a tough one.

Hopefully when your H talks to his dad it'll knock some sense into him. It's pretty selfish of his dad to not think that not getting getting a paycheck for over a month will not impact his family.

DH used to work for a company (a family friend) who pulled the same ***. It was sooo hard to plan ANYthing. Thankfully he ended up leaving to work for another company - whew!
