time to get more aggressive?

Today is 13dpo.  I broke down and took a test this morning, which was unsurprisingly another BFN.  My RE seems to be taking a very cautious approach, but I am ready to speed things along.  I'm not sure exactly what that means, but Clomid + TI isn't cutting it.  (Not surprising since none of the IUIs worked and Clomid hasn't created any more targets than I was producing on my own).  Where I stand currently:  MH's numbers are normal, my tubes are clear, I'm ovulating, no good reason why I'm not pregnant after 20 months of trying.

Just looking for any advice/suggestions about how to broach this with my RE.  I don't see him at the beginning of my cycle -- I just tell the nurse that the cycle was unsuccessful, then she talks to him and relays a plan.  I won't see him again until mid cycle monitoring.

Try taking 50 my of dhea daily to improve egg quality. Also tell re you want to proceed with iui with injectibles. Or find a better re. I have high fsh and got pregnant naturally after 2 years and was 1 month away from ivf. Good luck. Keep your head up. Always praying for everyone onvthe ttc boards now. I'm 38 btw with only 1 Fallopian tube!

I would just approach this with you RE by telling him that "we want to be more agressive."  Any good RE should understand that when you are over 35, time is important.  With my REs, it seemed that they always wanted to move on more quickly than we did-for this very purpose.  With Clomid and TI, they don't have to include you in their IVF stats.  Would recommend a second and third consult with other REs to see if thier plan of action would be the same as your current RE.  When you only have one opinion, it's hard to tell if the path of travel is the best one for you.  Many Ladies get themselves second and third opinions, there's no shame in asking around-even if you are satisfied with your current RE.

I'm in the same boat. We're getting more aggressive this cycle by adding Ovidrel. The tests show that I ovulate but we think it is a lackadaisical meandering vs the strong ovulation that gets the egg going.

Are you wanting to go IVF? I'd definitely start getting pricing and discuss process. We got IVF pricing a couple cycles ago and have started saving. I just told my RE that we wanted to know what other options we had. She had already talked to us about IVF in our initial consult.

As happywife said, I would just ask your RE what he thinks the next step is as far as being more aggressive in your tx. And I agree that getting a second opinion might not be a bad idea, even if only to have something for your current RE to react to. Good luck.

I think I would call and ask your RE about this now.  No reason to wait until the next time you see him.  Ask to speak to him and if he isn't available, leave a message with the nurse letting him know your concerns.  Good luck!

As suggested before, I'd set up a consult with him and tell him you are ready to be more aggressive and see what he says.  Another opinion wouldn't hurt either.

It must be frustrating to not know why you are having problems.  (hugs)  Keep us updated.

I would call now and ask to speak to your RE, if you want to be more aggressive I see no reason why he shouldn't at least review options with you.

I would request to see your RE in person and I would get a second opinion. MH and I are doing that currently and it helps to have a different perspective of where you should go from here.

Thanks for the advice, ladies!  I think I was worried about him thinking that I thought I knew better than him...or something.  But, if I am going to be aggressive in treatment, I should also be assertive! 

10-4: I hope the Ovidrel does the trick for you!  I kept imagining a slingshot ovulation last cycle.

I agree with all that been said, and want to add another spin: you're paying for it, so don't be afraid to be more assertive about what you want!  Especially if it is coming out of your insurance; I have a friend who did four IUIs only to find that she barely had enough money to cover 1 IVF and not enough for the meds. So injectables definitely makes sense at this point.
