DS is 6 weeks old today and yesterday (Monday) was his first day of daycare. I picked him up at 5:00 PM while he was getting his last bottle (pumped my right side then) and I fed him from my left side at 8:30 PM. He fell asleep right away, and DH and I went to bed around 10:00 PM. The plan was that I would feed him at midnight, when he usually feeds, and then DH would feed him at 2:00 AM. I was expecting him to wake any minute when we went to sleep, since he typically feeds every 2-3 hours.
Much to my surprise, he did not wake up until 2:00 AM to eat. He has never had such a long stretch of sleep before, which was much appreciated for two exhausted parents. The downside is that I am totally engorged and am now pumping to relieve the pain. I had DH feed him since I would have probably choked the poor guy with my high pressure breast milk.
I am hoping this is not a fluke but I'm sure it is. Anyone else have this happen and did it last?
Re: Well, that was unexpected...
Enjoy it when it happens! The first few months are typically not consistent, so try to take advantage when you can. Once they hit about 4 months, they should develop a 7PM-7AM schedule, with one or two wakings until about 9 months when they should start sleeping 12 hours straight. It gets more consistent after the first 4 months, but there will still be 'challenging' nights as well.
Oh yeah, and quit bragging!
I'm sitting here at 9AM at my desk with a Diet Coke. I fell asleep at a traffic light this morning and woke up when the person behind me honked.
