Cloth Diapering

Cover questions

I was reading a few posts down about NB sized covers (I am planning on going with covers and prefolds through the NB stage, plus I have some fitteds szd 13-28 lbs) and I am torn between actual NB covers and something like Thirsties size 1 (supposed to fit 6-18 lbs) Suggestions and /thoughts? maybe like 3 NB covers and some OS ones?

Re: Cover questions

  • I always like to encourage people to have a diverse stash, so you are right on! A few Thirsties Duo Size ones, a couple Bummis, and maybe a couple other types. I like the Prowrap covers for NB because they have an umbilical dip - they are boring white, but having one on hand is a good idea. Also, check out Green Mtn. Diapers - they have an extensive list of different covers, including the Mommy's Touch which has a NB size. The Swaddlebees Capri is along the same lines as the Thirsties Duo and comes in some super cute prints! I don't recommend covers like Flips or Econobum until babies are 10+lbs.

Also get a few GMD Workhorse NB - at $5 each, they are a great investment! Hope that helps!

  • And I believe the Newborn workhorses are on sale right now!

  • I actually got 3 of them on diaperswappers. I heard they were the bomb, and I snatched them up!

  • OS covers won't necessarily fit a newborn, so I'd suggest getting 5-6 covers that are exclusively newborn size.  Doesn't hurt to have a few OS covers on hand to try once LO's legs fill out, gut generally newborns have legs too skinny for OS.
