bra question

So I am currently wearing an older bra of mine, a 30G with extenders in the back. The underwire and elastic in it is killing me, so clearly I need to invest in a new bra. Obviously I do not fit in bras at regular stores, or even maternity stores.

I know there are a lot of online stores, but plan to go to a local specialty store to be properly sized (then maybe find one online cheaper if the price is crazy!).

My question is, if I bought a nursing bra now, would it be possible to maybe be able to wear it after the baby is born? I just hate the idea of spending likely $80+ on a bra for only a few months, so hoped I could get use of it longer.

Re: bra question

  • It's possible that a nursing bra would still fit later, but after nursing for a while, you'll be so incredibly sick of wearing your nursing bras that I would hold off on nursing bras until you need them.  I'd invest in one or two good bras to get you through the pregnancy.

I feel you, though.  I bought 2 new expensive bras in April, then outgrew them, so got two new bras in July.  I'm already feeling like I may need new bras again!  And like you, I have to go to specialty stores. They don't carry my size in many stores!

  • I am needing a new bra as well and like you and pp, its hard finding my size i n a store (unless I go to Nordstroms as spend $80+ ). There was a post a few weeks back that had some good links to different stores Id never heard of before that had reasonably priced bras in hard to find sizes. Hopefully some of them will see this and post!! As for a nursing bra, I wouldnt worry with one just yet.

  • If the nursing bra costs the same as a regular bra would, then it wouldn't hurt to get a nursing bra, but if it costs more, then I recommend against it. You really never know how much you are going to grow when nursing.

I went from a 34B prepregnancy with DS, to a 36C while pregnant to a 34DD while nursing, and would have never expected to grow that much.

  • I actually just bought a bra at Addition Elle, a plus size woman's store. I was able to get a 38H there, and there are plenty of sizes for a reasonable price. So maybe take a look there, or if you don't have them south of the border, check out another store like that :)

  • I use to work for Motherhood Maternity - I am pretty sure you can order larger sizes on their website (or at least you could 10 years ago when I worked there) for a reasonable price.  Just note their exchange policy....
