Just wondering....

How often are you ladies given ultrasounds? I feel like everyone knows how much their baby weighs and how big it it and I have no idea. I only had one ultrasound since the 20 week level II sonogram and that was just because my blood pressure was up and I was kind of freaking out so the doctor let me see the baby to make me feel better. I am 28 1/2 weeks now though and I don't have a clue how much the baby weighs or anything. I was just curious as to how often your doctors give you ultrasounds and stuff. When I go they just listen to the heartbeat and send me on my way.

Re: Just wondering....

  • My last ultrasound was my a/s at 18 weeks. I won't be having anymore unless there is some sort of issue. My appointments have been just like yours-- he checks her heartbeat and answers any questions I may have.

  • I had one in 1st trimester as a dating u/s at 8wks.

Then I had my A/S at 20 wks. They did tell me his approx weight at this one.

These are the only two my MW does unless there are complications/pregnancy is high risk.

I chose to have an elective u/s done at a little over 28 wks... for fun. Smile They told me an approx weight at this one too.

At my appts, she just picks his heartbeat up on the doppler too. If it's enough for her, it's enough for me. *Like I said, we did the elective one for fun/curiousity only*

  • I haven't had any real ultrasounds since the A/S but when I went into triage for preterm labor over the weekend they did a super fast one and I didn't see anything.
  • Had my a/s at 21 weeks and I think I will have another at 37 weeks. I had one then with my son maybe to check weigh. Otherwise my appts are the same! In and out

  • I had one at 8 weeks, one at 20 weeks, and I'll be having another at 28 weeks to check that my placenta "moved."

When people seem to know weekly the size of baby, they're probably looking at the fruit/average baby size that corrosponds ...sp?... to the weeks/months pregnant.
  • I've had three and will have 2-3 more. I'm highrisk, so they do alot.

  • I get one in the beginning for dating and then the a/s. I had an extra each time this time though because of inadequate info from the first scans. There will be no more the rest of my pregnancy as long as there are no issues. And people really should take LO's measurements with a grain of salt. So many times they say baby is 9lb when they're 6 and vice versa.

  • I've had 5, have one next week and 2 more after that. Only because I am high risk and they check the thickness of my cervix each time. I love seeing LO but wish I didn't HAVE to have so many ultrasounds.

  • I had the dating u/s at 8 weeks and the a/s at 19 weeks. My NP told me at my first appt that they only give those two. All practices are different though. My SIL gets an u/s at every visit and she's not high risk.

  • I get them every 6 weeks at my MFM due to some issues early on.  I also got them early due to my previous loss and ectopic.  At my OB, I just get to listen to the hb.

  • As far as my doctor's office, I've only had a dating u/s at 12 weeks and an a/s at 20 weeks. At 30 weeks I will have another u/s to make sure the baby is gaining weight - which I attribute to the fact that for the first 23 weeks I was still down 5 pounds from my pre-pregnancy weight, and even now I just got to my pre-pregnancy weight. So it seems 2 u/s are pretty standard. :)

  • I had one for the A/S and they wouldn't have done another, but baby had some kind of kidney stones, so they checked again a month later. They were gone, so that is good. But we won't have another u/s.

With my first I felt like we had u/s every appointment.

  • I've had 5 and have another one tomorrow and will have one at least every other week until birth.  I am high risk and they are looking at the baby's growth and heart for specific problems.  Be thankful you don't see your baby as often as those of us who do.  I love seeing my LO but would rather not have the doctors looking for problems...
  • So far, I have had SEVEN of the things. No joke. But it's not nearly as nice as it sounds like. Reason I'm being shoved off to one ultrasound after another, though, is because I have gestational diabetes, and my doctor seems to be totally convinced I'll have a huge baby, even though he's been on target for growth every single time. Believe me, after a while, this just gets to be really annoying and downright exhausting...
