I know everyone's insurance is different, but I was curious what you ended up paying out of pocket?
I didn't have the screening done with my first two, but am considering it for this baby. I've learned that I'll get two separate bills: one from the hospital and one from the perinatal specialist who does the screening. Aetna's systems are down currently, so I'm waiting to get in touch with them to find out the adjusted rates for the services, but what I've been quoted by the specialist and the hospital (before adjustments) puts the screening at $1000!! I paid less to deliver my other kids!
Re: How much did Nuchal Translucency screening cost you?
***Jealous*** although, i gotta say we are pretty lucky. my DH's boss pays for our healthcare, and pays all our co-pays and deductibles (we just have to submit the bills). So im not sure how much it costs..
I have Aetna as well. Do you have a deductable? I would look at your plan information. I have a high deductable plan ($2500 a year, covered 100% after that for everything), and I met my deductable with a surgery in February. I didn't end up having to pay anything out of pocket. You might end up having to pay the deductable amount if you haven't met it yet for the year, or if you have met it, a percentage of that $1000 (maybe 20%, trying to think of what the other plan my company offered was). But the NT Scan was covered by Aetna, so I would wait to talk to them. They have a phone number on their website and on their insurance card where you can talk to a person about your plan. The last time I called it only took me a few minutes to get through. They can give you more information. Good luck!
You pay, just in a different way.
Mine was covered as part of the global maternity policy.

I'm in Canada and we couldn't get an appointment for the screening at the local hospital. There's such a back log of women that I would never have gotten an appointment during the prescribed time frame I needed. So, we had to go private and it's costing around 400$.
Before adjustments it was around $800.
After insurance adjustments I paid
Less than $200. Like $189 or something but we are on a high deductible plan.
Nothing here either. God bless America!
My Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO plan covers 100% "labs and X-rays," no deductible or copayment, so it was covered in total. With the U/S, eval, and blood test, the insurance was billed something like $2500, but the insurance probably only paid a few hundred.
And unlike in Canada, I could get an appointment easily, without having to wait or use an unpreferred provider.
I had Aetna over two short periods of my life. Both times, I found they sucked, and I had to fight with almost every claim. Plus they made many, many "clerical errors" that I had to sort out. I'm not surprised they'll make you pay.
We're on an HMO, so everything is co-pays.
Cost $20 lab fee for the blood test portion, $20 for the scan & eval. $40 total (technically a little less, since my lab fess are per-visit and I also had tests for thalassemia, iron levels & absorption, etc performed at the same visit).
