When does this stage end?

DD puts everything in her mouth. I hate that we've had to take away most of her books because she tries to chew them to bits. She's almost 10 months. Is this just teething (she's always done this)? Is it a stage she'll grow out of, or have your LOs done this and you needed to teach them not to? Any advice on how to teach this? "No" "Not in your mouth" and moving her have not been very effective.

Re: When does this stage end?

  • Its that age and its the teething. I wouldn't be telling her no, but I would replace the items you dont want chewed with items she can chew on.

  • Depends on the kid. Both of my kids are very orally fixated so my son was past 2 before he grew out of it. My 19 month old still puts everything in her mouth.

All you can really do is say no mouth and take away things. Unfortunately no magic fix but it does get better with age.

  • She is 16 months and while she still does it a bit, it is much less than she used to. I would say the worst was over for us by about 14 months.
