white poop? TMI but help!

We all have had a form of some stomach virus but in the past 2 days or so have almost fully recovered . DD's seems different with almost white, gritty frequent poop! The smell is horrific. No fever, no vomiting, and eating ok (not great but not terrible). She is staying hydrated with water which she loves in her sippy cup.

DH is going to call the pedi. Any ideas though ladies? Has this stomach bug made the rounds?

  • Chalky and White

AKA: Abnormal stool Looks Like: Pale, colorless, or white stool

A chalky, white baby stool could be a sign of a lack of bile, which normally turns a stool brown.

What Does It Mean? A white stool might be a sign of a liver or gallbladder problem. Bile is a digestive fluid made in the liver and stored in the gallbladder. Your baby's stool gets its normal color from the bile as it is excreted during digestion. If your baby's liver doesn't produce bile, or if the bile is obstructed, his stool will be white.

What Should I Do? A white stool is very rare. If your baby's poop is white, call your health care professional immediately.

Contact your health care professional right away if you see: Blood or mucus in stools Fever Vomiting Irritability Refusal to eat Decreased or darkcolored urine Decreased activity

  • thanks ladies! when i googled, i sort of hit the panic button with the results. This stomach virus has gone round and round for 2 weeks for DS then DH, then DD and then me. We had to provide stool samples to the pedi late last week for DS since he has been dealing with symptoms beyond the norm. DH spoke to the pedi about noon and she said to cut all milk and cheese for both of them and concentrate on bananas, rice, etc. Both are staying hydrated. DS's results should be back tomorrow. If things don't slow down for DD as the day/night progresses, we should call again.

The pedi is fairly confident this related to whatever virus we have shared and not anything worse however a close eye is needed of course. I came home to work this afternoon and not a second too soon b/c DD was in need of her 2nd bath of the day :( My poor girl. She is happy one minute and falling to pieces the next. I am so tired of poop and vomit. My recycle bin has 4 containers of clorox wipes. We have cleaned EVERYTHING. DH even ran vinegar through the dishwasher 2x today and i ran bleach through the washing machine for good measure. It has to end somewhere!

I give you credit...I think I would have totally lost it by now!  Poor kids!  Even when it is just a small issue for Stella, if she's upset or miserable, it upsets me.

  • A had that when he had a nasty stomach bug. Took about a week after his last sickness symptom to go back to normal.
