Umm was this part of my mucous plug?

Gross!  I hate saying mucous plug!  But tonight I was in the bathtub and I noticed a few bits of stringy snotty stuff floating in the water that looked reddish or brownish... I haven't felt any contractions or anything, I have just noticed that yesterday baby has moved lower down and keeps kicking by my lower hip and it's kind of a sharp pain that makes me jump!

I'm kind of concerned that I might be losing my mucous plug?  Or is this something normal?   I really don't want to head over to the hospital if I'm just overreacting, but this is my BABY!!

  • ...and is it spelled mucous or mucus?  I keep seeing it both ways...?

Also, DH and I have not had sex recently... (Tongue Tied)

  • I would call for sure...  My friend just had this happen at 30 weeks. I'm sure everything is fine, but always good to be safe!

  • It could definitely be part of it. But it's completely normal to lose chunks throughout pregnancy. One of the lovely characteristics Wink of your mucus plug is that it regenerates. If it was rather large and you start noticing other signs of PTL, I'd call. (Watch for cramps, backache, contractions, reduced movement from LO, more blood...)

    All of this.

  • Mucus is a noun. Mucous is an adjective. At least in the medical world.

So, in this case, I should be saying mucous plug since it is describing the plug...  (gross gross gross!)
Thanks for the answers.  I'm going in to see the DR in about an hour and hoping everything will be just fine.  I woke up with a few BH contractions in the night but I don't have any bleeding and haven't seen any more pieces.  And LO is moving around even more than usual!  I'll keep you posted about what the DR says

  • Sorry this is a day late, but I went to the DR and he said I am still closed up nice and tight!  I probably did lose part of my MP but my body is making a new one!  No worries!  :)
