This is not an unusual viewpoint.   Look at the Republican VP candidate.  Social conservatives are coming out of the woodwork by using women's bodies as a smokescreen because they, also, have nofuckingclue on how to fix the economy so they'll control what they can control. 

Namely, uteruses and the women who have them.

Rick Santorum's buddy said women need to keep an Aspirin between the knees.

The spokesman for a NY (R) state rep suggested hurling acid at female Democratic senators.

The idea there is "legitimate rape" and "Not really rape" is an old meme amongst social conservatives. It comes from the repulsive idea that a lot of women who claim rape secretly wanted it, or gave in to their impulses in the moment but later felt guilty and decided to cry "rape". This is a case of a politician, Akin, showing his true colors with this kind of slip of the tongue

I'm not even sure why he was talking about this in the first place, it's not even remotely scientifically correct. Open mouth, insert foot I guess? Hopefully he gets punished in the polls.

yeah, at least this one is open in his misogyny. Let's not forget the equally sick ones who have the good sense to go about their misogyny quietly. Like the current Rep VP candidate who distinguishes between forcible read: legitimate rape... and the other kind of rape, whatever that is. Paul Ryan, Todd Akin, et. al. sponsored a bill last year on this very topic, using that very language. Wake the fuckings up, OU. I don't find this stuff in dark Leftist corners somewhere. I find it in the social conservatives' own mouths and their own texts. Please don't play it off like they are outliers, and one has to go digging up dirt. They are VP and PotUS candidates. If you want to vote that way, go on ahead, but don't deny what they are.
