Anyone on bed rest a LONG time? Lurker Q

I hope its okay that I post here... I've been lurking here for a few weeks "just in case". I have posted this on a few other boards but I'm not finding anyone who even comes close to my situation and I thought I might find someone here.

I'm starting week 8 of bed rest. I was put on bed rest at 15 weeks and if everything goes well I will be on bed rest a LONG time. If I make it to 36 weeks and am on it the whole time, it will be 22 weeks total. I've never even heard of anyone being on bed rest that long! I feel like I have done pretty good so far but I am starting to hit the point where I am getting really down about the situation. I'm not bored- just frustrated, depressed and irritated having our parents around to "help" all the time. I just don't know how long I can do this- I can't even imagine another 8 weeks, let alone another 14.

I feel guilty even thinking this. After losing a baby last year I know this is far better than the alternative. I will do anything possible to keep this baby safe!

Has anyone had to be down this long? How did you not go insane??

  • I was only on bedrest for a month but and started later than you at 21 weeks but I was mentally prepared to be on it a loooooong time and had set mini goals for myself and the baby.  It was really the only way to do it. I had a hospital discharge date that was my eventual goal, but there were many many intermediate goals.  Unfortunately I only made it to 25 weeks and would have done anything to go on longer.  Hang in there.  take it one day at a time (if you are in the hospital take it one nursing shift at a time) and try to remind yourself that every day you stay pregnant roughly saves your baby 2-3 days in the NICU (at least that is what the MFMs told me)

  • Well my 6.5 weeks is nothing compared to your bed rest time!  The last month I was in the hospital which went by dreadly slow and I would have gone all the way to 34 weeks in the hospital if things had gone differently.  I did feel like I was going insane some days and was extremely anxious knowing they could decide to take them after every u/s or NST.  As cliche as is sounds, I just took it day by day, and then those days turned into weeks.  Every time I was a week farther along I got excited knowing by babies had a better chance. I know CurlingRocks on here had an extremely long bed rest time.  Lots of luck to you and I hope you don't have to join us any time soon!

I was on hospital bedrest for 24 days before I delivered.  However, there was another woman on my floor who had been hospitalized at 16 weeks and was there, in the hospital, for 10 weeks!

GL, and I hope that you're able to keep that baby cooking as long as possible.

  • I only made it two weeks on bed rest before having to deliver so I can't give much advice. One thing I would do is have DH bring me stuff from a drawer that I could organize while in the couch, it made me feel productive!

  • I was only on bedrest for 2 weeks, so I can't imagine what your going through. I'm sure you have all you need in the regards of entertainment, books, computer, tv, etc. I actually wanted to set small goals for myself, like uploading photos to shutterfly, printing photos, making a scrapbook for my oldest DD. I had those plans, but I never actually did them. I just wanted to let you know I'm thinking about you and your LO and praying that you can hold off delivery for 14 more weeks.

  • I was on for 10 weeks with DS and am on week 16 now. I hope to make it a lot longer! But as far as I know, I don't know anyone who's been on it longer than me. I do have an acquaintance who was put on at 6 weeks and made it to 3rd tri sometime. It's possible. But I hear ya. There's no way to combat the boredom and isolation that I've found. No matter how many activities I have lined up. Have you tried sidelines.org? I have a bedrest buddy there and at times, she's been a lifesaver.

  • I was on bedrest from week 24 to when they delivered at week 32. The only way I got through it were friends + family visits and phone calls! There's only so many books you can read and movies to watch! But friends and family cheered me up!

It's hard... but it's worth it in the end. Hang in there!

  • I was only on hospital bed rest before delivering DS at 28 weeks. I thought I was going to go insane with just that amount of time. All the nurses kept telling me that I'd rather be there pregnant and on bed rest than be in the NICU. Now that we've been in the NICU for 11.5 weeks, I know that no truer words were ever spoken.

My thoughts and prayers are with you.
