Crib Wedge?

Every night my LO will have about an hour or two of gassiness where he cries until he either farts/poos, and the same thing usually happens once a day or every other day. But every night it is the same routine. My husband and I found that he sleeps best when he is elevated (e.g. carrier), but I know that he can't necessarily sleep in that all the time. Last night he had a nasty bout of gassiness and was spitting up quite a bit, which he never does. He was sleeping in 1 hour bouts in his crib, and it wasn't until we put him in his carrier that he finally fell asleep.

Long story short, have any of you tried using crib wedges for gas issues/reflux? What's the verdict?

Re: Crib Wedge?

  • The problem with the wedge is that you can't alternate which end his head is facing (to prevent flat head).

  • Wouldn't you just turn his head to the other side?

  • The recommendation is to turn the entire baby (180 degrees) so that one time their head is toward one end of the crib and the next it's toward the other end. The crib wedge would be on one end only unless you switch it from end to end each time you turn your baby, which you prob wouldn't do.

  • We have this and use it, and it seems to have helped a lot of DS's gassiness and spitup...just be  very careful not to place your baby too high on the wedge! Our DS struggles to break free of his swaddle when he sleeps, and he ended up rolling a little bit and kind of sideways in the crib! He didn't flip over, but we now just place him so his head is up a bit and his body is still flat...

  • fyi, with dd we put a blanket under the mattress and it did the same thing for free.

  • We use a wedge, but I alternate which end of the mattress it is under when I change the sheets so that he isn't always facing the same way. I haven't noticed a great change in gas.
