Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Anyone regret NOT circumcising?

My LO is now 7 weeks old. We didn't circumcise because my husband isn't and that's really the only reason. But now I'm regretting it...

The ped told me that after 6 weeks of age, they sedate the babies for the procedure which I really don't want to do =(

Anyone circumcise their little one a little later and have a success story to share?

Re: Anyone regret NOT circumcising?

  • May I ask why you are regretting it?

We chose not to circ and have never regretted the choice.  DS is almost two and has never had any issues with it.

  • My LO is circed. The pedi did it while he was still in the hospital at a day old. His circumcision looks great and we have never had any problems with it...My girlfriend on the other hand, has huge regret circumcising. Her LO had to go in twice for re-dos because not enough skin was taken etc...Her LO has been under for the procedure at 2 years old...

Ditto. We did not circ either of our boys and haven't had any regrets or issues with them.

    Well, I should have explained...

LO got a UTI when he was 29 days old. And although the nurses and doctors told me it had nothing to do with him not being circumcised, they said the boys they do see with UTIs are usually not circumcised.

  • I would suggest reposting on another board with older babies if you want to hear success stories of older babies getting it done.

LO was circ'ed at 3 weeks and we have zero regrets.

my ds is not circ'd and i don't regret it.  he 2 utis as a baby (3 and 5 months old) but due to urinary reflux (which he has since grown out of).  it has nothing to do with not being circumcised.  our urologist said circumcision has no bearing on getting or not getting utis (i asked because i had the same concern you seem to be voicing).
    ::thumbs up::
  • We did not get my DS circed, which was a big decision for my husband, since he is and he initially just wanted DS to be the same without doing much research.  A few days before my scheduled induction, I think it finally hit him and he finally did look at the research I had tried to show him and he decided we should not circ.  My only hesitation was that we might be setting him up for problems in the future, but DH kept reminding me that the majority of males in Europe are not circed and they get along just fine.  Our pedi also told us that leaving him intact has no bearing on his chances of getting a uti.  He's six weeks now and we have had no issues.

  • My son is 3.5 and I am very happy with my choice to leave him intact. We have had no problems.

I have been told that UTI's have nothing to do with being circ'ed or not, but IMO what is harder for your LO? A UTI or major surgery? There are so many risks involved and there is always the chance you'll have to have it redone as PP said.

  • my wife was indifferent about it, but i wanted it done. I was not crcumsized as a child and it wasn't until i was 19 and truly felt uncomfortable around girls, not to mention growing up in general that i had the operation done. being 19 and getting circumsized is not easy to deal with! i just did not want my son having the same insecurities i faced growing up.

BS Troll   You really expect us to believe you are a real man who decided to appear out of no where on a Mom's board and have his first post be in a thread about circ'ing?
