The beco?

We tend to be a woven wrap family. With DS we also tried a robinsnest SSC and I really loved it and it was so pretty but it just dug a little and I felt DS never fit in it perfectly so we ended up selling it. We still have our woven wrap and plan on using it with the new baby but I think a SSC would be nice to have because it may be easier to put on quickly when running after my DS.

I like the look of the beco butterfly because it has the built in "harness" and that would make it easy to pass from me to DH and from front to back carry. If you tried it what did you like about it. What did you not like? I really love the beco gemini le has a few options where the whole carrier is made in the cute print fabric (the call it overall) but I think the butterfly would be better with the inner harness.

If you have tried it what do you think. Does it dig? What do you like? What do you not like?

Re: The beco?

  • I have it and both my DH and I love it. It doesn't dig on either of us, my like and dislike is the same thing, the hooks are hard to snap but it's good because that means it doesn't unhook to easily.

  • I love my butterfly. I chose it over the gemini because it has the inner harness. I feel much safer with the inner harness, plus I like being able to transfer the baby from partner to partner without taking her out. The only feature of the gemini that the butterfly doesn't have is that it can be forward facing, which I wouldn't do because it's so bad for babies. So the butterfly was a better fit for me. Do keep in mind though, if there's a big difference in size between you and your DH, you will have to do some adjusting of the straps when transferring the baby, and that can take just as long as taking the baby out. That hasn't been the case for us, but I heard that comment before.

  • Oh, and I will feel MUCH more comfortable (safer) doing a back carry with the inner harness, when we get to that point.

  • I would try to see if there's a babywearing group nearby that has one you can try on - SSCs are really fit specific in my experience.

I personally don't like the internal harness - for me it just kinda gets in the way and is another step that you have to do (if fast is your goal).  I guess the pass back and forth option might be nice but honestly I've never been in a situation where that woudl have been nice to have.  Typically if we are switching wearers, I'd need to take baby down anyway to nurse or change a diaper.  The butterfly is a bit bigger body than the gemini though which is nice for long term.

I'm also primarily a wrapper but I've noticed (as have several wrapping friends) that we've reached for buckles more with our second for just the reason you describe!  My personal favorite (and I've tried ...a few!) for the under 1 crowd is the Action Baby Carrier because it can be worn higher in a back carry which is my preference.

Yea, we don't do forward facing so I nver even looked at that feature. DH is a lot taller then me so that is something we may have to talk about. One reason we love the wrap is it can fit anyone!

I just asked our near by group if I can try a few different SSC.  I think my other issue is I love how secure a wrap feels almost like baby/kid becomes a part of your body. I feel like with SSC they hand more and that can feel uncomfy. Maybe I just have not tried the right one. I will see if I can find an Action Carrier to try because I like my back carrys nice and high and maybe that will make me like the SSC more!
