I need to go to some baby wearer websites, because we've only ever used 2 carriers - the Moby and the Ergo. And we've been completely happy with the Ergo for a very long time.
But DS is a big big boy. Off the charts for both height and weight (40 inches, 38lbs at his 2 1/2 year check up a few months ago.). And I'm expanding - rapidly. So the Ergo is starting to be less comfortable for us both. But he's only 2 1/2, so he still loves being carried - he's just big.
Do I just need a soft structured carrier with better padding and a taller shell than the Ergo? Any recommendations? Or am I just reaching the limits and expecting too much of what can be comfortable for baby wearing?
I would love to be able to keep wearing him as long as I can, but fear we are reaching the end of this time together. I'm definitely open to investing in a new carrier, but as most of you know, these padded SSCs get up there in price, so I would want to make sure it was a significant improvement over the Ergo.
TIA.
Re: Carrying a large toddler while pregnant - Help
Yes - a larger bodied SSC (if you want to stick with buckles) will be way more comfortable than the Ergo which is relatively small bodied.
Some options that are easier to come by that should be a good fit on your LO (all of these are quite large; "toddler" really means 2+)...toddler size Olives&Applesauce, Toddler size Tula, toddler sized Kinderpack (although actually the preschool size would work even better for your LO).
You might see if there's a babywearing group near you as a way to try one of these on before you buy.
