Anyone woken up with this?

I woke up last night with some growing pains, no big deal. figured i'd get out of bed and walk around a little, especially since i had been laying half on my back and half on my side so i wasn't entirely comfortable.

i started to feel really faint like i was going to pass out. it was really scary...i thought dh was going to have to take me to the ER. i laid down again, no fever or anything, and dh put a cold cloth on my head. my arms just felt tingly, but they always feel like that (i've had some episodes in the past where i've almost passed out).

i read online that feeling faint is common in some people after the 4 month mark, especially with twins. i think maybe i panicked a little bit too and it just didn't help. i feel better this morning....any cause to be concerned? can anyone relate to this?

  • It sounds like you had something called vasovagal syncope (or pre-syncope)..lightheaded, dizzy worse with position or emotional changes (stress, etc). Drink lots of water, get up slowly and take it easy!

  • Yes, early on in my pregnancy I started getting really dizzy and faint feeling when I stood up, especially when getting out of bed.  I mentioned it to my doctor and she said it was normal.  I think it has to do with the increased blood flow going to your belly and it takes your body time to adjust to this.  I also get a very tingly, pins and needles feeling in my right leg whenever I stand for too long.  I just learned to be extra careful and take my time getting out of bed.  I  think these are just normal feelings when your body is adjusting to the pregnancy, but ask your doctor if you are concerned about it.

  • I experienced this too. Your body is working extra hard to pump blood to your little ones! Drink lots of water and be careful not to get up too quickly. Don't need mama taking a fall. :)

  • I had something similar about 3-4 times in the first/second tri - oddly it always happened right around 8:00am when I had just gotten to work.  I would get super hot and dizzy and feel like I was going to faint.  It always went away after about 10 minutes or so but I felt weird for a couple hours after it happened each time.  My Dr. said it was common and could be related to dehydration, low blood sugar, etc.

  • yes I had that around 14 or 15 weeks.  It lasted maybe two days.  I saw my ob and they said it was from increased blood flow and to try and just sleep on my side.  Hopefully it will go around soon for you!

  • Sounds normal to me - I have really bad VS throughout all of my pregnancies - my doctors think that it could be due in some part to my mitral valve issues. Either way, it's freaky! This pregnancy has actually been really good - my second was terrifying!

  • I went through a period of VS during my pregnancy.  It was around 15-20 weeks as I recall.  The only thing that worked was laying down on my side and drinking some water.

The good news is that for most people, it passes.  Hopefully it will for you!
