Cloth Diapering

Rash with fitted diapers?

DD's been getting a bad rash line near her belly button every time we use the fitted diapers. Because of this, we've recently switched to disposables for nights, for the first time in her life : Ugh, guilt. Before this rash, a disposable had never come anywhere close to her little bum!

Any suggestions? I'd really like to go back to cloth exclusively, but obviously if this rash continues I won't be able to for DD's wellbeing...

Anyone else's LOs develop the red rash line from fitteds?

Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Rash with fitted diapers?

  • I've only ever used fitteds, but I have struggled with diaper rash for 2 months (LO is 10 weeks) with my cloth.  I finally figured out it was the detergent.  Probably not your problem though, since you haven't had the problem before.

Could she be allergic to the material?

  • Hmmm I haven't considered allergy! Good point. Although the rash is just one line beneath her belly button so that's odd, no?

    Any other thoughts?

  • We had the beginning of a diaper rash, so we slightly switched our night-time routine, and it hasn't come back (we use fitteds at night, too). This is what we do:

At bedtime, I put diaper cream ALL over her, wherever the diaper touches. I REALLY like the GroVia magic stick.

I put a liner in so that she does not have a wet bum all night. I am using a Flip Stay-Dry insert as a liner.

In the morning, I wipe her off with water, dry her with a hair dryer, and let her spend some time nude.

What kid of cover are you using? Sometimes the Aplix on our covers rubs her belly and she has what looks like a rash.

    Flip cover.

  • I'd bet it's the cover rubbing her tummy and not the fitted.  You can try putting some preventive cream in that area - CJs or Grovia Magic Stick...or even coconut oil.  Or try different covers, like wool.
