Nurseries and Baby Gear

Am I missing anything?

So my DH and I are TTC. When I think about things at length I make lists to make sure I know what all I need for something...

I was making a list of furniture I would need for the nursery and this is what I came up with:

 Crib

Rocker & ottoman & End table

 Dresser

Changing table

This is all the big furniture I can think of. Is there anything I have missed you would recommend?

  • You really don't need both a dresser and a changing table, you can just put a changing pad on top of a regular dresser.  That is what we did.  We have a fairly small nursery, so we don't have an ottoman or side table either.  I did get a small nursing stool, and our glider is near the dresser so no need for us to have a side table.

I have a question for you. So if I get a changing table I would basically store all the diapers and necessities on/in the changing table. If you don't have a changing table where do you store this stuff? Honestly it would probably come to a changing table or night stand. And odds are I won't get an end table.

  • I'm planning to leave all the stuff you mentioned on top of the dresser. A change table is a lot of money for very limited use in my opinions...

It really is personal preferance though.  We used the changing table for nearly 3 years with our first and are now using it for the  twins, with a second one downstairs.  I vote changing table.

  • We have our changing station on top of a shel in the closet in DD's room. If you have a dresser I don't see why you need something else cluttering up the room

  • We have a custom made changing table that is really big so we have never had a dresser in DD's room.

My dresser has 8 drawers and I am using the top two drawers for diapers (in one) and all the other stuff that is needed for changing in the other.  I hung up all of her clothes, so it was not a big deal for me to take up a few drawers.  I am not saying that you should not get a changing table if you want one and if you have the room for it, just that it is not necessary.

  • I'm guessing your just looking for other ideas (not looking to combine necessarily?)

    We have:
    Crib
    Dresser
    Changing table with storage
    Bookshelf
    Rocking Chair
Small (plant sized) table---specifically for the humidifier
    Hamper

    All of this.

  • We use a dresser with a changing pad on top and just put all the diaper changing related stuff in one of the top drawers.  We have this dresser:

I'd also consider adding some sort of shelving or other storage for books, toys, etc..

  • I vote changing table, because there is only one dresser in the nursery and I didn't want to take up the only surface area with a changing pad and changing stuff.  I needed the space for the turtle night light and other things.

Our nursery is a good size, and I got a very inexpensive changing table at Ikea!
