When did LO put Weight on feet?

What age adjusted and non adjusted did you LO start puting weight on their legs?

My girls are almost 8 months  a little over 6 adjusted, and still are having a hard time w/ this. I dont really know what are good things to help practice this so they learn. Any suggestions?

Re: When did LO put Weight on feet?

  • DS is 6 months (4 adjusted) and has been 'standing' for a while now, maybe 2 months, when we hold him of course.  He may be tiny, but is seriously freakishly strong!

We hung out with friends who have a baby roughly the same adjusted age (they were due 2 weeks before us) and they were really surprised that DS was standing like that already, since their DD hasn't even tried.  So it seems to me like maybe it's something individual to the baby?

With DS, we would kind of hold him upright on our laps and he would just put his legs out and we'd let him push down, if that makes sense.

  • Mine is 14act/9adj and has been bearing weight for about 3 weeks now! She doesn't do much else with her head or rolling but her legs are very strong!!!

  • Same with out baby. We have photos from the 4th of July where he was "standing" (with Daddy helping), and he'd already been doing it a while (at the time, he was 4.5 months actual, 2 months corrected). He's a crazy-strong baby, though... even in the NICU he was doing sit-ups and all kinds of antics!

This week, he's walked a few steps with me holding him up by the torso. He is 6 months actual, 3.5 months corrected. He loves doing it, but he only just recently started rolling over and I don't want to let him skip over important floor stuff.

Both my kids do this and have been for a few weeks. Allison sits with assistance (boppy) and rolls all over the place (back front front back). Ethan mostly lays there and can only do front to back rolls but he is very solid on his legs. I brought him in the bathroom the other day with me in his RNP because he was fussy. He pulled himself out of the belt and was standing  in the RNP (leaning obviously). Allison does this stuff too. The doctor said my kids have really good muscle strength for their age.

Thank you, yes we have been trying this more lately than ever so we're hoping they start to catch on. We have an eval w/ an OT and PT coming up so hopefully we can catch them up. :(

I'm sure they will catch up!  While DS stands, he does not have a ton of interest in rolling over...he's only done it a few times, and of course I look at babies his age that roll over like crazy and worry - why isn't he doing that.  But I think kids just do their thing at their own pace, and have preferences just like we do.

  • OUr were completely different...DD was doing it at about 8 months adjusted and DS was about 10 months adjusted...I would try putting him in the exersaucer.  Obviously not for very long but that way they can feel supported and have the chance to stand while playing with something.  It was even recommended by a PT to do this, again, just not for a long time.

  • Our LO has been "standing" for a few weeks now.  Like pp, we started holding her on our lap and she would push up, stand, and look around.  She will also balance like this if we lightly hold under her arms while she's on the floor.

I really do think babies develop at their own pace.  DD didn't smile until at least 10 weeks and shows no interest in rolling over, etc.  She just has really strong legs.  Even while pregnant she would kick like crazy!

  • I believe DS was a couple months old. Not sure exact age. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

  • DS is 19 weeks actual & 13 weeks adjusted. He is already starting to put alittle weight on his feet when I hold him. He has super strong legs. I just hold him upright and he pushes off the ground with his feet. Every preemie does things at a different rate. DS still won't do tummy time.
