Anyway, I think Amalia is a lovely name, and I don't think it would get mispronounced too often (it's easy to skim it and read Amelia, I guess). The pronunciation is pretty intuitive. I love Molly as a NN.
I love Amalia! I had a friend named Amalia growing up and she went by Molly!
I know of 2 pronunciations, Uh-Mall-Ya and Ah-Ma-Lee-Uh.
I pronounce it Uh-Mall-Ya.
Yeah, I say Uh-mall-ya as well I'm worried people will say uh-mal-ya or aye-mal-ia. You never know...My DD is Adelyn. And she always gets called Adeline or aid-lyn
It may get misread as Amelia sometimes but, overall, I think the pronunciation is pretty straightforward. I think it's a pretty name and I love Molly as a nickname - very cute!
I would mispronounce it. I thought it was some kind of you-neek way of spelling Amelia until I read the responses. I realize that I am probably in the minority, but at first glance without thinking about it that was my initial reaction.

My daughter is Amalia nn Molly, and the feedback so far has been overwhelmingly positive and trouble-free. We have only gotten "Amelia" once, from a nurse at the doctor's office, but it's an easy fix and no big deal.
We do pronounce it more like uh-MOLL-yuh than uh-MALL-yuh, but the difference is very slight (at least with my accent), so I haven't paid much attention to whether people are saying uh-MOLL-yuh, uh-MALL-yuh, or uh-MOL-lee-uh. All three sound fine to me. I haven't heard aye-mal-ia yet. I suppose I have heard ah-mol-LEE-uh a few times from people reading from insurance forms, but I just repeated it with the emphasis corrected and all was well.
I read it so it rhymes with "Somalia." Molly is darling, but I'm not a huge Amalia fan. I think it's probably somewhat likely to be confused with Amelia, but hopefully not.

I'm actually surprised at how many people wouldn't know how to pronounce this. I thought it was common enough that people would know it (though I know it's not that popular, I think it's not even in the top 1000 right now). I say uh-MAHL-ee-ah. I've also heard uh-MAHL-ya but to me it's a very slight difference and wouldn't bother me. Anyways, I like the name but personally wouldn't use it because of my association with it.

So no major troubles so far.
