Q about the Battelle Developmental Inventory

This is what the school used to evaluate DS for preschool. They gave me the scores, and while I know they are low, I am still not sure what they actually mean, and how he measures up to other kids his age. If anyone is familiar with this test and how it's scored, could you send me a PM? Thanks :

Re: Q about the Battelle Developmental Inventory

  • They used this to evaluate Lauren for EI services. To me it seems very subjective and it was a lot of them asking me what Lauren does. I know it's probably because she's so young. I was also very conservative with my answers so I could make sure Lauren would get services.

  • They asked me a few questions but mainly they tested him without me in the room. He scored 66 in cognitive and 69 in communication. I know that is low but how low? Is this test scored by standard deviation?

  • I didn't get a number score from the EI people, just that she scored "Zero months" on everthing but cognition.

When we got it done by a PT/OT clinic at the hospital they said she was 50th percentile.

Maybe I'm thinking of something else?

  • Thanks so much Auntie. He did get the full version we were there for awhile. They did tell me his scores were not in the average range, but I should have asked them to elaborate further.

  • Nate was in a research study where they used the Battelle. I couldn't figure it out either so I gave up. His scores sucked...I think....Wink

  • Those are standard scores.  An average range is considered 90-110 with broad average being 85-115.  69 would be more than 2 standard deviations below average.  I administer the Batelle because that's the required test for us to use, but I will tell you there are many parts of it I don't like.
