Cornbread help...

I've got this self-rising cornmeal mix in my pantry and I want to make some cornbread. Trouble is, I do not have buttermilk, which is what the recipe says. Can I sub for reg milk or would this be a ruiner of recipes?

Regular milk isn't the same, and it won't rise properly.

Poop. That's what I was afraid of. This is why I usually just buy Jiffy Mix. Dh did the shopping.

This is really, really, really good.  No buttermilk, quick and easy peasy.

Put in 1 tbs of lemon juice or vinegar for every cup of milk it calls for. I never buy buttermilk.
