Preemies

Preemies - where did you let them sleep?

I'm 98% sure I will be having a preemie due to IUGR.  Is it ok to place them in the cirb from day one?  This was my plan, but the more I think about it the more worried I get.

Sorry I haven't posted on here before. I'm sure I will be more though.  The doctor says she doesn't plan on me going past 37 weeks (only 4 more weeks away).  TIA!!

Re: Preemies - where did you let them sleep?

  • DD was a late term premie 36wks she slept in a bassinet until she was 5months. Now she is in a PNP. She has a crib but she has never slept in it.

  • We use a rock n' play.  It's great!  I like it b/c it keeps his head elevated and fits right next to the bed.  He's 10 weekso old and I think he'll be in it a little while longer.

  • DS was 36 weeks and induced due to IUGR, as well.  He slept in the crib from day one.  In his own room.

  • DD#1 was born at 33w 4d and DD#2 was born at 34w 5d (they both spent 2 weeks in the NICU). When we brought them home I sleep in a little pnp in our room for about a week. I moved both of them to the crib when they were about a month old. I had a hard time sleeping with both of them in my room (they moved a lot) and they keep me up. I worried that they were not breathing constantly. Once I moved them to the crib, set up the monitored, I finally started to sleep better. Obviously you gotta do what's best for you. If your more comfortable w/LO in your room, then do it.

Praying that you make it to 37 weeks. Please keep us posted.

  • My D slept in her crib from the day she came home.  My NICU recommended that she start in her crib and strongly discouraged co-sleeping.
  • We used a bassinett and R&P in our room for about 6 months. Then the R&P in the nursery for a month or so before we transitioned to the crib.

  • We are using the Rock & Play in our room for now. It doesn't take up a huge amount of space and DD really seems to like it. She isn't a huge fan of playing flat on her back and the RnP is slightly elevated so that helps. I don't see why you couldn't put her in the crib right from the get-go if you are comfortable doing so!

  • Lila was born at 31 weeks, home a few days shy of 38 weeks and now home for exactly one week.  She sleeps in a RNP in our room upstairs, in the bassinet attachment of her stroller or in the Moby wrap, since I baby wear much of the day.

  • We have a late term preemie.  She slept in the RnP but thdn started getting scrunched at the bottom.  She was then in the newborn napper and now the bassinet part of the PnP in our room.  Once she gets a little older we will move her to her room, but we do practice with naps in her crib.  I havd friends that did the crib right away and their LOs did great.

  • I was IUGR too.  She spent the first two weeks in the NICU.  When we got her home, she slept in an Arms Reach Co-Sleeper, but it was HUGE.  So we sold that on Craigs List and got the Amrs Reach Mini Co-Sleeper.  She is still sleeping in this.  When she outgrows it, we will move her to the crib.  But that will probably be a while.

  • DS was 6 weeks early due to IUGR, and was 3lbs, dropped down to 2lbs 11ozs. He spent the first 7 weeks of his life in the NICU. He now sleeps in his bassinet right next to my bed. I plan on keeping him there until he outgrows it. He is still on a 3 to 4 hour feeding schedule. So it's easier for me.
My little pumpkin was born at 34weeks, weighing 3lbs, due to severe IUGR & Unexplained Placental Insufficiency. He spent 49 days in the NICU. Lilypie Premature Baby tickers imageimageimageimageimageimage
