2nd Trimester

3D/4D Ultrasounds

Anyone planning on doing a 3D u/s?

My doctor doesn't do 3D but a really nice imaging place does them nearby.

So I was wondering if anyone else paid for a special 3D session or plans on it?

If you did it before, was it worth it?

Re: 3D/4D Ultrasounds

  • I did it when I was pregnant with DS. It would have been worth it if he had been in a better position, because I think some of the photos really are amazing; unfortunately we just weren't lucky that he was head down/face down and hiding (but that was lucky when it came time for birth, so I'll take it lol).

How far along were you? I didn't want to go too early. The imaging place said late 20s to early 30s is average.

  • I didn't do it before.  The only reason I might do it this time is if I decide that I am sorry I didn't find out if the baby is a boy/girl at our 20 week ultrasound.  I'm hoping I can make it without needing to know :)

I worry that they'll be like "oh you were told it was a girl? Well no its a boy." Haha!!

  • I did 2 with DS one at 21weeks and one at 28weeks. Both were great and worth the money. I had one at 16weeks this time and doing another in a couple weeks. I think anytime I get to see the baby its worth it.

  • We did it with DD, but went too early at 16 weeks. They were still right about her being a girl but it was hard to tell. This time we're going at 18 weeks. It's totally worth it, especially if they do ultrasound video too to see them flipping, kicking, etc.

  • The machine at my a/s was able to switch back and forth between regular ultrasound and 3D. So we got a few regular pics and then one awesome 3D one where we can see his face. :)

  • My AS is 3D/4D so it's at around 20 weeks. We got some amazing pics but wouldn't pay for it out of pocket.

  • I did it with DS and it was worth it.  I think its fun!  I was 29 weeks.

This time we're getting a u/s at the place just for gender determination at 18 week since my doctor is making us wait another month.  I'm undecided on the 3d, but we have time to go back and do that.  Maybe if they offer us a really good deal on it.  lol

  • I was looking into a 3D ultrasound at a boutique in Boston and it is $109. $250 seems quite high - you must get a lot of pictures/DVD with that though, right?

  • I had a "pregnancy verification" 3d/4d at 10 weeks, which was pretty awesome because I could see what the babe looked like rather than a little blob on a 2d. I had another at 14 weeks. FI's mom really wants to go when the baby is chunkier, so we'll go around probably around 32 weeks.

With DS, I had one at 16 weeks to determine the sex, and then my OB office bought a machine that could switch to 3D, so I saw him again on 3D at 32 weeks.

I think that they are totally worth it but not entirely necessary if it's not within the budget.

  • My SO found a Living Social half off voucher for the imaging place near us, so we're going! I hope out little boy cooperates!

The pregnancy verification u/s was $70. We got a ton of pictures and a DVD too, which was cool. They also gave us a 30% off coupon, so when I went at 14 weeks, it turned out to be $100. In addition, after our second appointment, we got a 50% off coupon to use toward our next visit.

The office I go to has different packages, so obviously the more you get, the more you pay for. I've always just got the basic, which includes pictures and the DVD. I think that the higher priced packages are bundled together with additional u/s. Like, you buy this package and you get an u/s at that time, then you just paid for another later on, which equals out to saving money if you're sure that you want to go again plus more pictures than the standard package, I believe.

  • The one near me is expensive too. For 3D its about 150. But you get lots of photos and a dvd. You can pay 250 and get two visits with videos and photos. I was going to go around 30 weeks and do the 150.

I plan of asking the tech at my a/s next Thursday to see if there are other places.

  • We're going in a week and a half for gender determination. I guess down here in south florida we're cheap... it's $79 for a short gender determination and if you decide you want to go twice (once for gender, once to see the baby's face), it's $159. This includes the DVD, pictures, etc. They also offer the chance to come back later in the day or the next day free of charge if the baby doesn't cooperate. Seems like every place has the same prices/packages. I'm comfortable paying that much to confirm what they told me at the NT, but no way would I pay $250 like one of the other members posted. That's insane!
