We are going to start interviewing doulas soon. I went through Doulas.com to find a certified doula who volunteers with Operation Special Delivery, they donate their time to mom's who are delivering without their husbands who are military or deceased. So far, they all seem nice via email.

Mine has been a wonderful support throughout pregnancy, and I feel so confident that she'll be there with me and my husband. It was absolutely the right choice

No I never hired a doula, but I wouldn't go into labor/delivery without another support person. My DH is great and very supportive, but I've always had at least 2 friends/family members there with us for additional support and to share the amazing moment. I just have been lucky to have girlfriends/family that are into natural birth and have seen many natural births themselves.
(Oh and one girlfriend who supported me at my son's birth almost 6 years ago is now a doula)
Yes and YES! Since DH and I are first-time-parents, I thought it would be advantageous for us to have a doula. Well, she's been a blessing. I can't say enough about the positivity of having someone you and your support person both trust who is knowledgeable, professional, and kind. Once you find the one you click with, you're golden. I fully trust her and DH to make sure I'm taken care of and that nothing is done that I don't approve of.
