All this anxiety...& sleepless nights!

Hey everybody!

I wanted to post because I'm just having one of those days where I feel so nervous for everything. This is my first baby and I'm so nervous for delivery (I really hope I am not feeding anxiety to anyone else)! I was thinking the epidural route for a long time, but now I think I may plan for natural (UNLESS the situation arises where I feel like I will die without epidural). I'm just so scared, this is my first baby and I want things to go smoothly. Unfortunately, having a baby is probably similar to your wedding day- you can always plan for the best, but things are always prone to come up. I am just feeling anxiety and need a little encouragement. I'm 22 years old (23 in November- my due date is 27 days after my birthday! haha) and I just need to feel like it will all be okay. I trust doctors and I know they will take care of me, but I worry. And these sleepless nights and/or waking up every 2 hours to pee is probably stressing me out too. Every time I feel Bella kick though, I know things will be okay. I just get so scared sometimes. Anyone else feel this way?! Don't leave me hanging- leave a comment!

I also have my glucose test next Thursday and am so nervous for that. I HATE giving blood and last time I did, I passed out. I'm just hoping for the best- let me know if anyone else is feeling the new soon-to-be mommy anxieties! It'd feel great to not feel alone!

  • I certainly have those days too where everything seems overwhelming. It always helps me to hear that during pregnancy everything can seem worse than it is and it's probably not as bad as you feel right now. Remember that these feelings won't last forever, and just try to get through them. It will get better.

Try to focus on these things when you aren't feeling as anxious. You will be able to make better decisions and won't worry as much about them.

I also find that talking things out with my DH helps. He's learned that even if my fears at the time are ridiculous, I calm down pretty quickly if he puts his arms around me and just talk things out. He's been amazing with this.

Best of luck, and don't worry, things will get better!

PS I pass out a lot when I get blood drawn too. I did pass out during the glucose test, but the staff at my OB knows me enough now to be prepared for it. I always ask to get blood drawn lying down, and I trust the staff to be able to take care of me when I do pass out. It's not a medical emergency, and I've done it so many times now it's not that big of a deal anymore.

  • You are AWESOME! And so right- I should be thinking when I'm feeling more levelheaded. I agree with discussing things with DH too, it helps to talk to him when I'm feeling blue and like things are blowing up in my face. And he also treats me to gelato, hehe. :)

Oh and for the blood tests, thanks for that! My OB said next test to make sure to let them know I need to lie down and to use a butterfly needle rather than a bigger one. It just makes me queasy! We you like this before getting pregnant? I was queasy at times, but never passed out!

  • I feel ya!! I'm expecting my first as well! Talk talk talk it out! That is the best anxiety reliever you can have. As far as the blood test, I suck at those too, but they only did a finger prick for my glucose test so it was a lot easier than I thought. Ask your doc if it will be a finger prick or blood draw. It never hurts to ask. As far as getting up to pee all the time, I was doing that too. Until I started to drink more fluids in the morning and tapered off at night. I have been getting up much less if at all in the middle of the night. The baby is soaked in hydration :) so make sure you hydrate earlier in the day and you will be good to go :)

  • I am an anxious person by nature, so this pregnancy has really elevated that. As a FTM everything is new and scary, so I like being as informed as possible. That way I know what is normal and what should concern me so I don't stress over every little thing. I also find that the more distracted I am, the less anxious I feel. Remember, "idle minds are the devil's workshop"  :o)

As for the blood tests - my glucose test is next Tuesday, and I am dreading it. My hubby has to come with me because I pass out with all needles (since I was 9 years old all blood work, vaccines, finger pricks, everything... I'm down for the count). The only thing that has helped me is to recline, have DH squeeze my hand hard so I can't focus on the needle pinch as much, and continually talk and have a conversation with either the nurse or DH. Also, he comes with me so he can drive me home. You are not alone with the fear of needles. He has come with me for all blood work during this pregnancy and I haven't passed out! Definitely light headed and queasy, but I survived! :o)

Yes, I was like this before I got pregnant too. I'm normally ok generally but when I have anything medical going on I have a lot of anxiety. When I make an appt with a new doctor I always tell the staff that I need someone who is patient and can handle an anxious patient. When I have a medical emergency they usually have to give me anxiety medicine to make me cooperate. My biggest fear during labor is that the staff won't take my anxiety seriously.
