Cloth Diapering

Pocket Question

So I ordered 2 Alva's last week to see what they were like. Overall, I like them but I'm stumped on 2 things:

1.) The insert is made to fit correctly when the diaper is *at it's biggest* (all snaps undone). How do you put the insert in when you have the diaper snapped to fit a smaller baby? Do you have to unsnap and re-snap the diaper each time you un-stuff and re-stuff them?

2.) Is there an easy way to stuff them? It took me about 5 minutes last night to stuff the two I bought. I imagine it gets a little easier as I learn, but it still seems a bit time consuming.

Re-thinking my plan to do pockets...

ETA: I purchased these before my friend offered me her stash of AIO for free. I know I'll need more as time goes on so I'm trying to figure out what would work best for me as I add more diapers in the future.

Re: Pocket Question

  • 1. Mine stuff just fine folded. You might have to push a little harder but it still fits. I just lay the insert flat and slide into the diaper. No problems.

    2. It takes me about five minutes to stuff 20ish diapers. I don't see how it can take all that long to be honest? They just slide in for the most part.

Hmm... Wonder what I'm doing wrong... Maybe I need to spend more time working with the diapers/inserts.

I hope I didn't come across as rude, I just wanted to be helpful but I really don't understand either what your issue is.

Here's what I do. Hold the diaper with one hand. Hold the insert flat with my other and slide it in the pocket. All done. Some I have to push a little harder (my Fuzzibunz) to get them to fill out at the end, but otherwise, NBD.

  • Are you trying to fold the insert while you fold down the rise?

Try watching a video on youtube to see what might be the issue. Stuffing a pocket should take about five seconds, not five minutes.

No, you didn't come off as rude.

I guess the issue is that when the diaper is folded as small as it can go, there is about 2-3" of the insert that sticks out. I'm not sure how to prevent this from happening, aside from unsnapping all the snaps to make the diaper bigger, put the insert in, and re-snap the snaps. I was wondering if this is how it's done...

I'll take the pp advice and watch some videos on youtube to see if I can figure out what I'm doing wrong. ;)

  • Yeah...watch a video..good suggestion on pp part. :)

Another thought...are using a nighttime or heavy wetter insert on the smallest setting? Those don't work so great when the diaper is on the smallest rise. Any regular insert should be just fine though.

  • I have kawaii's that have the same "too long for sized down" problem. I just stuff the insert in then fold/ tuck under the extra.
  • Just stuff the rest of the insert in.  Yeah, it may look bulgy, but I promise when you put it on the baby it'll fit just fine.  It will look a bit too fluffy at first, but LO will grow into it.  It won't lay pretty at first.

Another option if the bulkiness bothers you is that you can buy some newborn inserts.  Those will probably fit the smallest rise easier.
