I am taking things easy and only working 4 days a week and one from home.. Everyone else twin mammas too are you still working full time? Re: Working while pregnant.. Am I a wimp or doing the right thing?

  • My dr made me start working from home at 26 weeks. I still feel like a big whimp because there was no real reason for it... totally precautionary..

But I think you're doing great. Id love the option to have worked 4 days and one from home.. but it's al or nothing.

    Congrats on the great update!!

  • You're not a wimp at all! I stopped working after 25 weeks- no real medical reason, but I couldn't take sitting at my desk and my hours were insane. My boss thought he totally got what it was like to be pregnant because his wife had a baby the year before, but then would leave at 530 and I would be stuck at work till after midnight. No thanks! Anyway, do what feels right for you and don't worry about what people think... I didn't and I'm glad I had that time at home to nest and be productive as I can hardly move or do much of anything now :)

  • I wasn't working while pregnant, but I will say this: I've ever met a twin mom who said, "I really wish I had stayed at work longer." Most have told me they wished that they had stopped working sooner.

  • I'm honestly amazed and horrified your doctor is allowing you to continue working when you're already 1cm dilated at 28w.

  • I worked in the office full time until 30 weeks.  Then I had to work from home due to a slightly shortening cervix.

    This.

I stopped working two weeks ago when contrax started. My cervix was still 4.7 at the time and my docs pulled. Of course we arent taking any chances with our history. Still I would think with you already dialated you would be on complete bed rest.

True -- it's not always feasible.  My H got laid off halfway through my pregnancy -- we wouldn't have been able to afford for me not to work.  Which is why I'm grateful they let me work from home those last 6/7 weeks.

I missed the part about you already being 1cm dilated.  That would worry me.  My SIL was on bedrest from 24wks on for that.

  • I'm still working, but I think it's actually helping me.  Don't get me wrong, I'm very tired at the end of the day, but I don't work in an office.  I'm in sales, so I am in and out of stores all day.  The worst part right now if that I live in Texas and it's 100+ degrees outside, but the walking all day has kept my weight under control, I've only gained 24 pounds so far, and when I get home, I just put my feet up and the swelling goes down in a couple hours.  But I think sitting down all day would make me swell more.  I am really hoping that they don't put me on medical bedrest, but we'll see!

    Good Luck!!!!

  • You're not a wimp.  You only get one chance to do this right and grow big healthy babies.  I say rest up if you can.

  • Your not a wimp.  Don't regret putting your health and that of your babies first.  I was put on bed rest this weekend, so at 28 weeks I'm now out of work.  I am allowed to work part time from home, but my boss prefers I just go out. He may have a project here and there I could do.  My DH, who is self employed, is already preparing to set up a work station for me so that I can do some work for him from the couch.  I'll start that next week and I'm looking forward to it.  It makes me feel good to help him out, since he's doing EVERYTHING around the house now without any complaint.

  • You are not a wimp at all!  At about 28 weeks I cut back to working 16 hours a week (all on my feet), but I was also in school full time.  At 32 weeks I was 30% effaced and doc said no more work.  It was definitely the right decision.  I was able to still go to school up until the night before delivery, and 1 week later I was taking my final exams.

  • My work forced me out at 20 weeks (long story). At the time I was devistated and not mentally nor financially prepared.  Turned out to be the BEST. THING. EVER.  I am so glad I had time without kids before the tornado of twins hit (I mean that in the most loving way possible). DO NOT feel bad.  Take it easy.  I am sure the only reason I made it to 37wk 4days is because I wasn't working.  Do what you need to do and don't feel guilty.

  • Also SHOCKED that you are not on strict bedrest, and that you are still working at all when dilated to 1cm. You are just more likely to give birth so much earlier- of course you could be one of those women who stay dilated for weeks. But chances are you will deliver sooner rather than later. Although they are estimated to be at good weights, 28-weekers are nothing to sneeze at, they would likely have a lot of difficulties and NICU time if born now. I would want to be on bed rest to do the best thing by my babies and keep them in as long as possible. In the long run, giving them more time inside is much more important than whatever your job is. I think you are pushing it by working almost full time (30 hours is a lot). I was also having contractions that I couldn't even feel, so just be careful. This is coming from someone who almost lost her babies at 21 weeks- I'm so happy to have made it to even 25 weeks. But don't lose sight of your priority, the babies, and taking care of yourself and taking all precautions is how to best protect them. GL!
