2nd Trimester

Are you putting a ceiling fan in the nursery?

I feel like we did this last time because I heard it reduces the risk of SIDS.  Our new LO will be in with us for at least the first 6 months, we do have a fan.  Wondering if I should put one in the nursery too for later on (it will be summer when the baby is 6 months).  Anyone have any insight on this?

Thanks for sharing!

Re: Are you putting a ceiling fan in the nursery?

  • We put one in DS's room for the same reason (possible SIDS reduction).  And I'm pretty sure we will do the same for this baby.  Even if it didn't reduce SIDS, it makes the rooms in our house much more comfortable in the Summer.

  • Yes, we have one in the nursery.  We live on top of a hill with no trees.  If the central air dies, we are in desperate need of fans in the summer.

I know it's supposed to be good for SIDS, but I don't really use it much in the winter, though I may put in a small desk fan just to keep the air moving.

    Yes

  • I'm not..The position of the light is just too close to the wall...must have been a man that designed that one! LOL I probably wouldn't anyways..just because I horribly remember my uncle playing with my cousin and he tossed her up in the air and THUDD THUDD goes my cousins head against the fan blades..thank god it was only on low but I will never forget that.

this is why we will not have a fan... I have a fear of this happening with a 6 ft husband and 8 ft ceilings

  • We'll be moving into new house right before the baby is born, and we plan to put fans in all the rooms, if they don't already have them. Not just for SIDS prevention, but because it saves us an arm and leg in electricity.

  • My husband seems to think having air blowing on baby is bad fro them and will cause them to get sick. Will have to read up on this.
  • Probably, if we stay in this apartment it gets the evening sun and makes the room hot and stuffy. A floor fan just doesn't cut it.

The fan isnt blowing on the baby.  I typically have it on the reverse spin, so that the air gets circulated around the room, but is not blowing on the baby.  We have 9ft ceilings upstairs, so I dont know if its different for shorter ceilings.  I wouldnt think so.

  • We aren't putting in a ceiling fan but we def will have a fan in there. I think we are going to get the dyson fan (no blades).

No. Don't put it on super high when it's below freezing in the house and you should be fine.

Yes, fans in any room where baby sleeps. Air circulation is a huge SIDS reduction contributor.

  • We are, but only because we opted for ceiling fans in all the bedrooms of the house we're building.  I never had a fan in DS' room, though.  We rent so a ceiling fan wouldn't really have been an option to install, but never had a stand fan or anything in there either.

  • Yes, we are getting a ceiling fan for the nursery. We live in a townhouse and our bedrooms get so hot without fans in the summertime. I just had DH install a ceiling fan in our bedroom (we were using a standalone fan before) so now he is at least an expert in installing them!

  • We have plans to install ceiling fans in all of the bedrooms in the house, but I don't know if we'll do it in time for the baby's arrival. It's a really good idea though so I might have to talk my fiance into it a little early.

  • There's already one in the room, but if there wasn't we would install one..I didn't know about them decreasing SIDS, but that's awesome..we just live in the hot, humid south and ceiling fans are the only thing that keeps the house tolerable in the summer without giving us a $500 power bill..

  • Our nursery already has one in it because we put it in there when we moved in for DS. He loves looking at the fan - even still. He likes having it on! Plus even with the air on his room is always hot so its needed!

  • I have fans in all the rooms. I am actually getting ready to change them out with remotes. I live in Dallas where it gets really hot 8 months out of the year. I run ceiling fans all year long - even winter, but thats mostly for circulation because I rarely turn on the heat.
