Do twins drop, even if the mom is short?

Height is 5'0. 31 weeks, 1 day with identical twin girls. Still have rib pain. The babies aren't presenting, but we want them to, and wonder if the opportunity could come when they drop, but maybe they won't drop because of the short height. Anyone have experiences being short, with twins?

Re: Do twins drop, even if the mom is short?

  • My A baby eventually shoved baby B all the way around into my side and dropped a bit but not much.  Baby B was still shoved all up in my ribs and then I had baby A still in my ribs a bit AND completely smushing my bladder.  It was misery. Total. Misery.

Anyway, I'm really short so it was definitely super uncomfortable in the end, but no matter how tall you are I don't think that there is ever room for both babies to drop.  The pelvis is only so wide.  :)

  • 4 foot 10 here. Mine were breech (A) and transverse (B) fraternals. I never had a drop as much as expanding downward. Made it to 36w0d.

  • Mine were both transverse from about 30 weeks on. So I never dropped, just got huger and huger :)

  • I don't know that twins really drop in the same way as singletons, since they're usually SO packed in there already. Mine didn't; Baby A was really low the whole third tri and toward the end, B was kind of up in my ribcage a lot (and kept flipping between breech and vertex). They were always side by side.

  • I am 5'1. Mine dropped so low at the end that I could barely walk!

  • I think a lot depends on positioning maybe. I am 5'0 and A was always vertex down in my pelvis but fortunately must have been positioned at a slight angle b/c I never had a ton of cervix pressure. B was always transverse in some way. They didn't 'drop' until my water broke and hten I had a ton of pressure obviously lol. In the last week, B moved somehow that my entire belly was shoved over to one side...it looked & felt ridiculous, I was constantly try to lay  on the other side to try to get them to move a little but other than that I had very little position change the whole time.

This ;) I'm 5'1" and both boys were almost always side by side vertically...baby A (on the right) dropped so low, and his brother, from 32-38 weeks when I delivered, had his head down by baby A's shoulder. Two heads vying for pelvis space is some serious pressure! lol.

God gave me a double portion for my inheritance with my little Mighty men :) 9/19/10 Baby A born at 1:47 am 6lbs 14oz, 20.5inches long. Baby B born at 3:20 am 6lbs 6oz, 19.5inches long. My double blessing!:)
