How do you sync your kids

So my babies are only 3 weeks old.But I was wondering how do you get your kids to have the same nap time and so on.

At the moment we do one awake the other awake for feeding , but they do not always fall asleep at the same time.

Thanks for any tips.

Re: How do you sync your kids

  • Are they ID or Frat? It's easier to sync ID because their biological rhythms are very similar....

When I started sleep training, what I did was watch for tired cues, ie: yawning, the long stare, fussy, etc. If one looked tired, I put them both down. At first the other one would fuss a bunch, but they started figuring out it was time to nap. Also, sometimes I might stall the sleepy one a little bit if the other is wide awake still.... not for long b/c I don't want them to get overtired, but there's a window there.

It's a lot of trial and error, but if you are consistent, you can eventually get them at least to similar schedules.... I've been working on it for about a month now, and it's still hit or miss, and mine are identical =)

  • We did an eat-play-sleep routine basically from day 1. They may not have fallen asleep at the exact same time every time, but the nap period started at the same time for both of them. And even if one took longer to fall asleep, if it was time to eat we'd still wake to eat.

  • Mine are frat. Your babies are still very young so you are doing the right thing with the one awake both awake if you want to sync.  The most important thing is to make sure they are feeding at the same time (or as close to it as possible).  Play with them afterward, which will stimulate them.   The sleeping will naturally fall into place depending on their own personal growth.

This, we go through periods were things get out of sync but if we do this, it's gets them back in sync.

This.  Once their naps start to consolidate, it will come together better as long as you stay consistent.

  • Once one starts to fuss I would pick them up and hold them for maybe 5 minutes and then I would lay them both down. One or both may fuss for a minute or two, but by that point they both were tired and would just go to sleep. Eat Play Sleep didn't work for us, they play for an hour - eat - then play for half hour to 45 mins and then they nap.
