Flying with a toddler

Any recommendations for flying with an almost 3 year old?  It will be a short-ish flight, CA to CO.  I'm planning on taking a stroller and car seat, but I was going to gate check them.  Should I keep the seat for the flight?

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

    Thank you for the suggestions!  We have a Graco Nautilus car seat, and I'm concerned that it won't fit....

    Bring lots of wipes to wipe down the area LO is sitting. Planes are germy!

    Ditto the gum recs. We took a portable DVD player with us so SD could watch movies but ours was a 3 hour flight.

     TTC since August 2011, Me = 40, DH = 38
    Unexplained IF. Tried Clomid for 3 cycles. All BFNs. BFP 1/6/13. Chemical pregnancy.

    Moving on to IVF#1. ER 11/26/13, 16 eggs retreived, 12 mature and all fertilized. 2 blasts transferred on 12/1. All other embies arrested so nothing left to freeze. Beta 12/10 = BFN. IVF #2 March 2014. BFP!!! TEAM BLUE!!!

    I rented a CARES harness for our most recent flight.  WAY easier than lugging the seat on the plane.  You can check it for free.  There are eBay sellers who rent the CARES harness - I used m_and_d_in_fl if you're looking for a rec.
