Withholding Poop

We starting pt wih DS over the weekend and he is doing great wih pee but has refused to poop since he had a poop accident on Saturday morning. He keeps talking about it so I know he needs to go but won't ( he normally goes at least once a day... Sometimes more). Any suggestions on what to do? I am reluctant to put a diaper on him because I do not want to move backward but I also do not want him to have problems because he is withholding.
