I lurk here a bit and some of what I have read has been very helpful, so when DH asked me a question I cannot answer, I decided to come to you ladies.
We decided a year ago that we wanted to either foster or adopt and went through the mandatory training in August 2011. However, we moved and our paperwork got lost between counties and we had to start the process over. Our home inspection is scheduled for Sept 7. Our worker told us we would be licensed shortly after that without giving us a real time frame.
While we have been waiting, we have been looking at the adoption exchange web site. We already knew that we wanted to take in older children since it can be so hard for them to find forever families. We found a girl, who turns 16 at the end of the month, who we feel will be a great mesh into our family. We plan on talking to her worker about her once we get licensed.
The question is: how long does the process usually take? Should we expect to be able to have our newest addition integrated into our family by Christmas? We just really are not sure what kind of time frame to expect.
Thanks for any insight you can provide.
Re: Hi! (and I have a question)
I *think* it's really going to depend on your county/state and how quickly they place, etc. I'd talk to your CW about it and see what they have to say. They'll be able to give you a better idea because they're based wehre you are.
GL!
I think time frames are so different in each area it would be hard to give you a time frame. Ours has taken about 2 months. We should have a final approval any day now.
Best of Luck
