So, I was very excited to receive the first draft of my home study today, a couple weeks ahead of schedule. Our HS is going very smoothly and quickly, but what I find very weird is, our SW told us to read it carefully, not only for accuracy of information, but also for punctuation errors. Is this common, to have to proof-read for spelling/grammar? And the worst part, they didn't even do a spelling/grammar check with Word before they sent it to me! I could not believe there were obvious spelling errors, some areas where there were 2 periods, etc. And the truth is, it didn't sound all that great. I am glad they are working quickly, but it took me forever to note all the errors in this 15 page document. My vision is blurring from reading through it all.
I am pretty sure this is just a contingency to adopt, and that it doesn't particularly matter if it sounds good or not, right? I think just the agency, my attorney, and myself will see this. Do BPs get access to any of this?
Re: All I can say is wow...
I don't think I was told to read for that, but I sure did. Especially after I got to the section about our educational background. They very clearly copied and pasted info from 1 homestudy to another as evidence of the graduation year that would have made MH and myself 2 and 3 years old.
I made sure to point that out in my return e-mail. I mean COME ON!
I was told told BP's wouldn't be able to read it themselves, but if they'd like more info about us that isn't in our book the SW will refer to the homestudy to provide more info.
I was told to. It can't hurt and after all, they're human so mistakes happen. There weren't many though.
We were told to check spelling, esp for names, as they may not be familiar to the SW. I think she had one of our ages wrong.
DD's BM never saw it. It was just a document to indicate we were fit to be parents.
ETA: Our SW's office was a one-woman show at the time and she was slammed. I wasn't surprised it wasn't perfect on the first pass.
We got to see a copy of our home study after it was submitted. There were a few grammar errors in it, but all in all it was interesting to see what ended up in ther given all that we talked about with our SW. BMs shouldn't see your home study, just your profile. We were told the agency/lawyer would see it, but that's it. There's way too much personal info in there to be shared with BMs. Congrats on moving quickly through this step!!
