meg_2006: Eczema

I saw that you posted on EFF about a natural eczema cream. I posted before I saw your post. I was asking about a natural remedy for DS. Have you tried any of the things that were suggested to you? How did they work?

ETA: I see your siggy with the College Park banner and is your DS wearing a skins jersey? LOVE IT! I am from MD.

Re: meg_2006: Eczema

  • The coconut oil works well for my dry skin, but I'm not sure how they'll do with my patches.  Right now though, I don't have any. They come and go, and are worse in the winter and when I'm exercising a lot- the sweat irritates my skin.  I have a feeling it's not going to be strong enough.  I tried some on DS's eczema patches and it did nothing :(  You might still consider trying it though, I've read it worked like a miracle for some people and did nothing for others.

Here's another post that was a few below mine about eczema patches on baby.  They named some specific creams that might work:

And yes, we are Marylanders!  Luckily for DS, I love Terps basketball, and DH loves Redskins football...so our interests never collide  :)

  • I've also got eczema patches on my arms and the best thing i've found was coconut oil, though like meg, it didn't completely clear up. The dryness went away but I can still see the outlines of them

  • Another Terp here! (and usually a lurker) We have been dealing with eczema for months now. Typically we use Aquaphor and Aveeno for daily use and prescription creams for bad outbreaks. Yesterday our pedi (who has a specialty in dermatology) sent us home with a bunch of samples of Cetaphil and CeraVe to try. He also told us to start bathing every day with at least a ten minute soak (which is pretty much the opposite of what we had been doing). Another surprise was to stop using a humidifier on a consistent basis. He said while it provides short term relief for eczema it may set up for more allergies in the future due to invisible mold that can develop. We have been using tide free on everything on our home since his birth but in the last month have switched to dryer balls instead of the tide free dryer sheets. Right now his breakouts are really under control but hard and frustrating to pin point the exact causes! Good luck!
