C-sections

tubal after c/s

My doctor told me it only takes about 5 more minutes during surgery, but what else should I know.

How is the recovery...this will be my 3rd c/s.  I have heard some people have hard time passing gas and it takes longer to recover.

What has your experience been?

Re: tubal after c/s

  • I had a tubal after this last c-section (4 weeks PP) I didn't really see anything different with my recovery in comparison to my first 2 c-sections.  However, you are on the table for longer.  Since this was my 3rd c-section there was a lot of scar tissue so it was longer getting to the baby,  then longer because of the tubal, so overall where I feel like my precious RCS was about 30 minutes total, I was on the table for about 50 minutes this time.  I know it wasn't all the tubal, but it just all added up to being a longer procedure.  Also, when they do they did my tuabl they puffed me up with air so they can see my tubes better.  This air got trapped in my abdominal cavity after they closed me back up.  For me this air settled up in my shoulder/neck causing a lot of discomfort/pain more so than the surgical pain.  This air could not be passed/burped because it was not in my digestive system rather trapped in my body.

This shoulder/neck pain was a first for me, although after my RCS I posted about it and there seems to be a good amount of women who have this as part of their recovery from just the C, when they didn't have a tubal, so I am not sure if it was a result of the tubal or just a result of the RCS and I was lucky to never have experienced it with the other two.  Now I am just scared something didn't go right with the tubal and I will wind up pregnant with #4:)

    Good LUck!

  • I just had one Monday! I was on the table a little longer, maybe 10 min. No big deal, and I feel no different than I did with my first CS. I do feel a little pain on the sides rather than on the incision, but really it's not bad. SO glad we did it!
  • I had mine done Tuesday.  I am much sorer this time, especially on my left side.  - am not sure if I am sorer because of having 2 babies or if its from the tubal.  But I am moving better everyday so I guess I can't complain.

  • thanks for the info ladies! I have heard about the gas pains after from some women.

  • It really does not add much to the surgery and adds nothing to the recovery. The doctor will have the tubes in their hands anyway, it just involves throwing a couple of stitches around them. Except that you can't get pregnant, your body won't be able to tell the difference. The gas pains are from a different kind of tubal, not the kind done with a c-section. When we are doing a tubal in a non pregnant women we fill the abdomen full of gas to get the camera inside. Some times women have "gas pains" after this type of surgery.

  • I had my tubes tied during my 3rd c/s 7 weeks ago. This recovery has been super easy. All my c/s were easy but this one was extremely easy. I've had some tweaks of pain on my right side that's further up from my incision but it's not bad at all.

My 3rd c/s did take longer for me to get into recovery though. The tubes were done in 5 minutes but due to scar tissue it took over an hour to close me up. My scar tissue wasn't that bad with ds2 so I was surprised this time when they said it was pretty bad.

I got that with my regular csections...so it probably has nothing to do with the tubal.
