C-sections

How long did you use the binder?

My binder is my life saver. Without it, my breathing slows and its hard to move.

It needs to be washed but I am terrified of having it off too long. I'm afraid if I wash it while i nap i wont be able to sit back up without it.

I'm a big baby.

How long did you use your binder and when did you wash it?

I am 5 days out of surgery.. if that helps any

Re: How long did you use the binder?

  • I never used a binder and have no idea what it is. What is a binder? I wonder why my doctors didn't offer me one.

  • Its a band that goes around the stomach to 'hold everything together'.

  • I used mine for the first five days or so, then washed it, and didn't really wear it after.  If you are having trouble breathing without it I'd consider calling the on-call doc.

  • I used mine for 2 weeks. My nurses said done people wear them 6-8 weeks.

  • The binder has nothing to do with your breathing.

If you are having any shortness of breath or difficulty breathing you need to be seen. You are more at risk for PE (blood clot in your lungs) since having a c-section.  Probably not what is going on, but get checked if you are having issues.

As for the binder use, I used mine for probably 5 weeks. I went to a local medical supply store and got another one to alternate when the other one was in the wash.

  • I have had 2 c/s and never heard of this.  So I guess to answer your question...never used one
  • I LOVED my binder while I was in the hospital (4 days) and I used it for 2 more once I got home.  After that it kind of felt like it was in the way for me and ended up being uncomfortable.  So I stopped at about 7 days after my CS.  Plus, my doctor told me that I should wear as long as I wanted to, but he didn't reccommend wearing it too long after I got home because it slows the process of your stomach/abs getting back in shape on their own because it actually relaxes your muscles and doesn't allow them to work on their own.  I'm a dancer and teach dance so that was important to me.  It's all personal preference though.  I would def. call your doctor about your breathing problems, and as for the binder I would maybe start cutting back in a few days or so?
