Pregnant after 35

When did you make your first Appt?

The last time I did the pregnancy thing I was 30, and found put around 8 weeks, and didn't bother to see the OB until around 10 weeks. It was my 4th pregnancy in 6 years and I knew what to expect.

Fast forward 7 years... Now I'm considered AMA at 37. Should I make an OB appt right away? Is there different testing or monitoring that needs to be done early? I have no history of miscarriage or preterm labor, no health issues like diabetes or high blood pressure. Lol, I'm just not young! :)

I just want to make sure our nibblet is going to stick, but I don't know how much they can tell that early on. Thanks for your input :)

  • For both pregnancies (37 and now 38), they brought me in around 7 weeks.  They did not monitor me any earlier due to age.

  • My 1st pg was at age 38 and I'm currently pg with my 2nd at age 42. Both times, I called the OB office when I got my BFP from a home test and they had me come in when I was around 8 or 9 weeks for the blood test to confirm. After that, my 1st u/s to set the due date was I think 10 weeks. No health issues here either.

  • I called my birth center when I was 9 weeks, but couldn't get an appointment until I was 13 weeks along. I also have a good prior birth history, and even though it's been 6+ years since my last baby, and I'm now over 35, I was still told that I could spread my appointments out to be every 5 weeks instead of 4 since I'm a returning client. My midwife never said anything about my age, and I'll be delivering this one at age 40.

  • Thanks ladies. I'll make my appt next month so that I can get a referral to a midwife in my area.

This (currently awaiting our first baby, at 37 (me) and 46 (DH)). I didn't get any special treatment for age - they just like to give the warm n fuzzies with that awesome label.

  • What is normal at my OB's office is a first appointment at 8 weeks.  But because of a prior loss, they saw me at 6 weeks for an ultrasound.  Also, from the moment I got my positive test, I was being monitored by my RE.  So I had betas and progesterone checked on that first day and again every 48 hours for the next 2 weeks - until I switched to my OB at 6 weeks.  Good thing I did, because my progesterone was super low and I was spotting.

But I think if you've had an uneventful history and current pregnancy, 8-ish weeks is probably normal.
