My son is 10 days old, and we've only used cloth once (we have been using disposables that were given to us). The one time we used cloth (BG newborn) he leaked EVERYWHERE. We now have 4 disposables left and are so scared to transition to cloth. I was so excited about cloth diapers my entire pregnancy, and now for some reason I'm scared to switch (afraid everything is going to leak). Tell me its all gonna be ok!

Re: in need of a pep talk
I've rarely had leaks and they've only been because I've made a mistake(insert sticking out, etc)
How long was he in the diaper?
Was it put on properly?
Do you have other brands at home to try?
How much does your son weigh vs weight recommendations for the diaper?
What did you do with the diaper to prep it? (How did you wash/dry it?)
Don't give up! Give it some time. And keep coming back here! We can definitely help you troubleshoot if you are having issues! CDing is awesome, it just may take you a couple of tries to get your routine/fit/etc down.
It'll be okay!!
A couple of "tips" for ya:
1. Make sure that his penis is pointed down. The CD will absorb better if it is pointed down.
2. Where did it leak?
a. If he leaked out of the leg holes you need to make the diaper tighter. CDs only absorb when there is pressure on the diaper, so it needs to be tighter than you would put on a sposie.
b. If the insert was completely soaked, then you need to change him more often.
We have only had 2 or 3 leaks total with our CDs, and that was due to me doing something incorrectly. It takes a little practice, but they are SO much better than sposies once you have them figured out!
GL you can do it!!

Thanks!
He was in the diaper for about 10 minutes, and it leaked from the leg holes.
I do have several other brands to try, so I'm going to start with those (I have FB perfect size xs, Kissaluvs AIO size 0, Swaddlebees newborns, Itty Bitty Bee, and GMD prefolds/ various covers).
I wonder if he is just too big for the BG newborns - he was 9lb 9oz at birth, so probably a little over 10 lbs now? That makes me scared he will be too big for all the newborn diapers I bought!
The BG I just washed twice and air dried (prefolds and natural fibers I washed and dried separately 6 times)
This may be your issue. DD outgrew some of her NB diapers (GroVia and some smaller prefolds) at about 8 lbs...even though they were supposed to last until 12 lbs. (We didn't have BGs though) Try the other types and let us know how they work. Do you have any One Size diapers yet? You may want to try one of those out of curiosity. Most people find that OS dipes don't fit until 10-12 lbs... but I started DD on hers at about 8.5 lbs with no issues. It really depends on the baby. Was the insert soaked? FWIW DD is only about 9 lbs now at 3 month...There is no way that her NB diapers would work anymore because of absorbancy.
Give the other types a trial. (Remember that you can sell diapers for almost what you paid for them, esp. if they are in such good shape)
I've heard that sometimes the AIO's don't fit quite right at the beginning. Do you have anything else to try like prefolds and covers?
I wouldn't give up just yet. You can always do disposables until he fits those diapers better too!
ETA: NM I just saw that he's big. So perhaps they just don't fit him right. I'd try a different brand then!
Yes! He is likely too big for the BGs. Those were the first nb diapers DD outgrew. She outgrew them in absorbency before actual fit as well. I'd try your KL0s or prefolds. I never used any of the other brands you have, so I don't know if they run larger or are more absorbent than the BGs (though the FuzziBunz are a pocket, so you can add more absorbency).
Maybe the BG newborn isn't the right diaper for you. I felt the same way about the lil joeys. I couldn't wait to use them- and I totally wanted an entire NB stash made up of lil joeys ONLY!
I soon found out they leaked like crazy, as well as the NB grovia. I think since newborns are so teeny, AIOs might not make a good fit. Maybe try a fitted diaper. Those worked much, much better for us- and it seems like it is a better bet for most others on this board.
I was a little scared at first, too. But honestly it is so easy. Just do it! The worst that will happen is you will have to do a load of laundry. Once you get the hang of it you will never look back. It becomes second nature- and using disposables will seem weird.
IT WILL BE OK!
Let us know how you make out with it!
