Getting staples out.. What to expect?

I have an apt to get my staples taken out Monday. I'm just wondering what to expect when they take them out? Pain? Burning? How long does it usually take? I'm just so nervous.

Re: Getting staples out.. What to expect?

  • Getting your staples out really should not hurt. They will use an instrument that bends the stable so it comes out straight without pulling on the skin. It will only take 1-2 minutes. You may feel some pinching but the anticipation is much worse than actually getting them out.

  • Honestly, I could hardly feel a thing. It just didn't hurt at all. For ONE of the staples there was a slight pinch, but I wouldn't even call it pain. The idea of it sounds a lot worse than it really is. I wouldn't say it took any longer than a minute or two to get them all out.

  • I was so afraid of getting mine out I drove myself crazy the entire way to office. I took two pain killers thinking that would help. haha. I didn't feel a thing. In fact she had already started and I said "can you tell me when you get the first one out?" the nurse laughed and said she was on number 3. There was one I felt a tiny tiny tug and its because there was a hair near it, but it didnt hurt. I had a lot of staples I guess my doctor just wanted to make sure...so it took a good 5-10 mins. I hope it goes well for your and these answers help you not freak out like I did. I soooo wish I would have asked around.

  • I did not feel anything at all when the doc was removing them.

I was SUPER scared of that, the idea of first of all having staples in your body and then 2nd of all getting them pulled out freaked me out big time. But it was nothing.

I looked down after she was done and was shocked to see how beautiful the incision looked, all clean and healed.

They applied steri strips and covered it with a waterproof bandage and that was it.

    Don't be afraid!

  • I had mine removed about 6 days pp and I didn't feel anything. If I didn't hear the click of the instrument as it touched the staple, I wouldn't know he was doing anything.

  • Don't be nervous!  It's really no big deal.  Takes only a couple minutes and just felt a little tugging, no pain.  Quite honestly, I was more comfortable after they were out because they had started popping and poking me!  I posted the same question before I had mine out, but it was no big deal!
  • I got mine out yesterday and it was super easy. No pain at all and it was a BEAUTIFUL feeling to be able to move around without the staples in there. Don't be nervous, you are going to be so happy once they are gone!
