Lupron Injection

So, I'm sure this has been asked, but I've looked through the last several pages and haven't seen anything.

I remember people saying that the Lupron injection is not so nice. My Office has even said if Lupron is not suggested by a doctor, you don't want to ask for it. Is it really that bad? I've done follistim, ganirelix, and POI injects. Anything here comparable? I start the Lupron for FET #1 on Sept. 2nd. TIA

Re: Lupron Injection

  • My Lupron needle was thicker than my Follistim and other injectables, but the medicine itself didn't sting or anything. Lupron never bothered me, menopur was the killer! GL :)

  • I just took a Lupron Trigger shot last night (so it may be different then the 2 week Lupron stuff) and it was a breeze!! I was worried all day about it because I too had heard it wasn't a fun shot, plus it was the first shot I had to give intramuscularly in the thigh instead of into my belly fat. But honestly, I closed my tear filled eyes, and hugged a pillow and literally a second later DH said it was over and I hadn't felt anything! GL!

  • I thought Lupron was one of the easier injections.  I used small Insulin syringes, the needles are only about 1" long.  The only side effects that I had were that I'd get red, itchy welts if I injected on the left side of my belly button.  It I was on the bottom or right side, no problems at all.  I bruised with the Follistim and Menopur, but never with the Lupron.

To compare, injections were as easy as Follistim, but needle wasn't as long.  Ganirelex had dull needles, so I found that one to be harder to inject.  And PIO is long and big.  Plus, it's much easier to inject in the belly than in the rear, which is where I have to do PIO.

    Good luck!

  • i have had no trouble with lupron (10 u, insulin syringes) except for a couple of nights.

when i asked on the board, someone suggested i wasn't letting the alcohol dry enough before injecting

she was exactly right! i had gotten so speedy and efficient at prepping everything, the alcohol wasn't dry. now i sing the jeopardy song before injecting and after swabbing and have no further trouble.

    good luck!

  • It's the easiest injection, or at least, the thinnest needle of the lot. Some people get s/e like headaches or hot flashes but these go away once your estrogen level rises. Many people have no s/e even with higher doses. Good luck.

  • The Lupron shots haven't been too bad.  I bruise like a peach so I have gotten some good bruises from it, but no major pain.  The last few days I have had some trouble puncturing the skin on my right side, but it may just be the way I was holding the needle.  The headaches are another story all together though....
